Replacing the Engine Compartment Sound Mat

Has anyone done this before? After the recent rain we've had in the Northeast, the adhesive gave way and now mostly sags. Tried the 3M Adhesive but it doesn't work given that the foam rubber backing is in poor shape. I thought I should replace it but am not sure exactly how. Any thoughts?

I did mine with the motor out. It would be tough to do with it in place, IMO. I used the high temp 3M contact cement, and it worked well. This, of course, was after spending a fair amount of time getting the old adhesive off. Again, the motor was out.

It is can be done motor in. Remove everything you can, clean (as well as you can until your patience runs out) & jam it into place dry. Then fold down - leaving the bottom jammed in & just glue just the horizontal area. I used 2 adhesives. A trim/rubber gasket glue & the 3M spray as a contact to hold it in place while the glue cured.

And it's not going anywhere. If or when I drop, I'll glue the vertical part.

Thanks. Yeah - getting all the old foam off looks like a NIGHTMARE and gluing it deep in the the back of the compartment seems nearly impossible. I don't think it's worth dropping the engine just to put in a new pad. Does the padding serve any other purpose other than to dampen the noise (e.g. heat)?

You'll find that a few people have left them off to save weight. Not sure how much louder it is. Mine's freakin' loud with the headers and muffler already, so I can't imagine it being a whole lot worse.

Just did mine. Went to Home Depot (do a search on their web site)and bought foil backed insulation. It came in a roll 16"X25' and paid $13.00. It also comes in a 24"X25' roll. I used two pieces instead of one big one which I think was easier to maneuver into place and glue down.
I wish I could take credit on this idea but someone else thought of it.
As far as weight, I think the whole roll weighs a pound. Another thing is if you have speakers they won't get heat soaked like mine did.

I rode for most of the summer without one & then installed it in August. I was surprised at how much noise it did cut down. And I have a Cab. My first thought was that it wasn't as nice as without . . . but it is more spouse friendly.
