I'm still trying to source a reflector from which to make the mold. Mine is 'so-so' but one of the mounting studs spun loose so it will take some surgery to get it off the damn car.

I have one in so so shape. Missing a few mount studs. Take off from correcting PO brain fart on my 1970 S Targa that he(she) updated with a 74 RS bumper and SC flares. I just fit up a new 73 RS rear bumper from Getty since the flares are steel I am not going to change them. Does that make mine a RS Targa replica or an original TARGA RS since the factory didn't make one? Make me an offer on the reflector panel plus shipping. Also I will sell the 74 RS bumper if anyone is interested.

It would not be too difficult to make that from steel. There are a few ways to do it...you could make a frame work from either 1/2 square tubing, flat bar or square stock and either weld a panel to it, or clamp sheet metal to the frame work and hammer the metal edge over (hammerform). Or cut out a blank, bend the flange over with a pair of pliers (slow and gradual) then shrink the flange to make it curve and follow the body. You can shrink using a pair of modified needle nose pliers and a hammer if you don't have an edge shrinker... more fun than most do-it-yourselfers want, I'm sure.

John - sounds like a good idea except for the fact it could double as a boat anchor...weighty.

I will have my panel back in a week or so and I can post how it turned out.

From looking at your site, it would be like falling off a log for you to do one in metal.

If/when someone makes a mold, then they can be made in fiberglass or even carbon fiber...

...sorry, I blinged-out for a second there.

Cheers

So is anyone else working on this?

I finally found a reflector. It has some minor cosmetic issues, but it should be workable. I prepped it today and will drop it off tomorrow to get hit with the chopper gun.

Don, would you mind explaining in detail how you did that?

I looks like they took a run-of-the-mill reflector and had a sign shop make a vinyl "PORSCHE" script for it.

I'm going to go ahead and make the mold, since I've already prepped everything. Who knows, maybe mine will be better
