it looks like a smoothed out old 935.. which by the way KICKS AZZ!
man you and the guys did some serious f'ing nice work there man.. Goran, I see the Ring decal.. you guys going back to attack it again and see if you can drop some time off Qvarnis's already fast laps...? Great machine man.. it really is... i to hope it goes as fast as it looks :) hahaah! because it looks like it's hauling azz sitting there. Ciao, EricSmileWavy |
I was thinking the same thing - looks like it's hauling ass waiting for a car wash.

Car landed at 2760lbs dry weight, which is little on the hefty side.
Too many pipes and metal work methinks. Cage is a bit owerworked and plywood sheet under car alone weights 88lbs. It's very very stiff though. |
Gnarly! Bet you have not heard that word in a while :)
How is that rear section attached? Dzus fasteners or something? |
It's Dzus but I'm trying to persuade others to rework fastening of rear wing. It looks allright when sitting still and all but wing will produce over 500 lbs of downforce @ 190 mph in it's most optimal position (Torbjörn made Matlab model of this) Those fasteners and wing attachment won't handle that kind of downforce. There is a risk of detachment at speed and in that case car would probably got airborne.

Car moves! this was some sort of legal streetrace tryout:

That looks a LOT better than the pictures posted earlier.
The video didn't work for me. How'd she run? |
All I get is sound?
|
Yup, not working for me either.
Thats pretty damn scary to think that there is a chance the body work can rip off @190mph . Like you dont have enough to worry about @190. Goran if there is any chance you can get another interior video on track or at the strip PLEASE post it or any video for that matter |
Good and bad news. Car run on a speed event and run well...speeds of over 200 mph were achieved. Unfortunately something happened with fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure dropped from 66 psi (which engine is mapped with) to approx. 30 psi. Engine pinged somewhat and was shut down. FPR is now replaced. Engine runs well again but leakdown test is in order.
Pinging can destroy things quickly on turbocharged engines so we hope that leakdown #'s are in the ballpark. Also, fan belt pulley loosened and belt almost jumped. Generator is moved so we don't have indication of jumped fan anymore. Something must be made to detect unmovable fan. |
How about putting a crank position sensor or something similar on the fan pulley or its guts? Some simple logic circuit can light an idiot light if the fan belt breaks?
I hope the leak down works out. How much HP, have any dyno results? Congratulations on the progress and speed results - really great! Frontal area is not small with this car, must be a LOT of horsepower. Doug |

is it the picture or are you really running that much neg.camber?
|
There is lot's of camber on front wheels.
|
looks like both front wheels are off... was there a bump or just not enough down force on the front to balance it out?
|
You have to show us more. Stop teasing us!
|
We carefully tried the car on real dragstrip during sunday/saturday. We used lowest boost setting (1.2 bar), ordinary street tires and no launch-aids (ALS, launch-control). Only thing we did was to reset rear camber to zero (so those 335:s can have as good footprint as possible) and remove the wing.
First attempt gave us quarter mile time of 10.88s, which is all time best for this car. After more attempts and some minor problems (shredded fan belt, leaky clutch cylinder) we managed 10.40 as best. Traction was superb thanx to many drag cars starting before us. Trap speed for best run was 141 mph , 60 foot time was 1.72 sec. Best trap speed was 145 mph. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1150047406.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1150047914.jpg During last run throttle mechansm jammed (those 3.6 throttle wires  ) so Jocke had to shut dow the ignition 7400 RPM. Fortunally nothing was damaged. We decided to call it a day and drive home. I wonder what time car would set when running drag-slicks, 2 bar of boost, ALS and launch-control? It would probably just shear something... Anyway, everyone is pleased with those figures on lowest setting and I personally was glad that engine was completly dry! Not a single drop of oil underneath. I'll try to find a video to post later on. |
P.S. Does anyone know what was the fastest time Juan Ruiz posted with his drag 911?
|
When are you guys taking it back to the RING?
|
Juan,s best was 10.76@141mph so you guys did pretty good
