Gauges in lieu of Radio ?

In "another" P-car catalog of a few years back... they showed a drop top 911...either a Targa or a Cab, from an overhead/behind view... clearly showing the ( then in vogue) white gauge faces for the instrument cluster... but also 3 gauges with white faces in a panel where the radio used to be.

Is such a gauge face available anymore...maybe from our host...or is this a home made device nowadays? What 3 gauges are used in that location? What gauge size? 2" ?

Wil

On my 914, I pulled all of the HVAC stuff out since it is a fair weather hot rod. In the place of the ventilation controls, I placed Three VDO 2 1/16" gauges. I did volts, amps, and cyl head temp. I have the 904 tripple gauge for oil pressure, temperature, and gas tank level next to the tach. To put the gauges in where the ventilation controls were took some cutting. I used the metal plate for mounting the gauges under the dash to hold the guages in the hole. It turned out real nice.

I bet you could fabricate something for the 911 radio area. You could do the volts, amps, head temp, exhaust O2, transmission temperature in that spot if you wanted. Everyone has to find that point between "more data GOOD" and "Too much info"

I did something similar with the switches from my center console. I first tried to modify one of the factory radio delete plates that pelican sells but it didn't workout.
I gutted my old stereo and just fabbed a face place out of thin wood and covered with vinyl.

Wil,

I suspect that the panel was homebrew, then or now ... and I would suggest Voltmeter, Cylinder Head Temp., and Transmission Oil Temp.

This is homebrew, made from thin sheetmetal.

All suggestions are very nice and duly noted....just wondered if the core panel was available from someone or homebrew. Looks like nominal 2 " gauges should work..can always check dimensions/ clearances myself.

Thanks folks...

Wil,
I seem to recall having seen something similar and recall vaguely that it was on a slant nose Turbo with lots of Sonderwunsche (Special Wishes) Department extras. I suppose that if you have the money anything is possible..................!

Drdogface:

That's the ticket...

Only thing...the Carrera radio face plate dimensions are about 2 1/4" x 7 1/2". Might get by with a bit more if you're willing to hog out the "hole" left by the departing radio..and get into the "frame" dimensions somewhat. I'm also kind-of confused on the listed dimensions of the VDO gauge pack ...something looks weird.
