964 Turbo 3.3 vs 3.6?

I probably would have stayed with the 3.3 but when I was ready to build a new motor one of the big Porsche parts houses had a totaled 1994 turbo. I bought the 3.6 out of it and using modified carrera 3.2 manifolds twin turbo'd the sucker...reliable and ran great !

I have a Porsche exclusive repair shop in Ct. and have probably 8-9 3.3s and 3-4 3.6 964 Turbos that we maintain/race and track prep. In stock form the 3.6s are noticably quicker however I think a 3.3 with headers and a good muffler (Hooker aero flow or Borla XR10 for example) will definitely outrun a stock 3.6. When you add in the fact that there is a STEEP price premium for 3.6s I think the 3.3 is the smart buy. I've also owned and worked on many 930s and IMHO there's no comparison The 965 does everything better. My current car is a 04 GT3 and I honestly think my 91 965 was a more exciting car to drive.

Doesn't sound like you're disagreeing with me at all. You're just comparing a modified 3.3 to a stock 3.6. That isn't what the question was, nor what I was responding to.


What I see here is 3.3 965 owners defending their cars. Understandable. Turbo owners live and die by how fast their cars are. So I understand how they can be a little defensive.
