The IROC style and '74 RSR front bumpers had the large holes for cooling the front brakes without any fender or hood venting. It worked OK for the factory back then. I would not do anything to the fenders or hood that would destroy the period appearance of what is going to be a very special car. |

Yes I agree. We are talking about the oil cooling flow. The RSRs had a diffuser that would channel the air flow under the car.
We are ducting that flow through the front trunk to the wheel wells. The best solution would be to have a vent in the hood. I'll post a pic of what I am talking about as soon as I find it! |

Just found this thread and I feel so much better. It is nice to know there is someone else out there as sick as I am :) ! As a comparison here is some info on the normally aspirated 911 I had. The cage was almost identical to my GT1R race car.. all the ERP stuff, camber boxes.. all that good stuff. I did have a full carbon 993 wide body on the car . That being said it came in at under 2200lbs. with 10 gallons in the tank . Chassis wise , you can't do any better I believe. But I had a mildly worked 3.2 liter motor. Bigger trottle body, SCarGo Racing headers and some mild work. I am sure no more than 300hp at the wheels..with 315's in the rear if I stood on this thing it would haze the rear tires in 2nd gear. I completley humiliated my friend in his 993 twin turbo..so with your Motec,3.9 with Jenvey's and all that great stuff all I can say is cinch up and wear a diaper your first time out :) As a side note Excellence did a 8 page spread on this car and the author David Colman said soemthig to the effect that it was the most fun he ever had in a 911...that being said I think you are raising the bar and will be more than pleased with your end results. The best oil cooler / cooling setup was used on the 993 RSR. Two stock 964/993 oil coolers turned perpendicular to the car direction/air flow with air ducted from the front bumper cutout directly to the cooler and then dumped out into the fender. This will keep an RSR 3.8 sprint motor at 177 degrees during an enduro at 95 degree ambient. There is less then 15 degree spike when the car is not moving and there are no fans. Air flow must be directed without opportunity to get around the cooler.

Cams are not in yet... there was a little issue with the ones we ordered.
Dr Timmins put it together for my benefit, so that I could "see" it. He's a great guy from that point of view. |
