Beautiful.............
|
Wow! That will be one sweet ride!
|
The not so good news comes from the chassis... After coming out of the frame machine (celine?) it is not as good as we all thought...
So I'll scrap the '88 tub. Luckily for me the guys at Zuffenhaus (where the car is being put together) have found a really nice rust-free, no-sunroof 74 tub. The tub had already been converted to widebody with some early style 930 rear flares. Keith and Aaron (the Zuffenhaus guys) will cut and open up the t-bar housing to fit the G-50 transmission. After that they'll reinforce the rear shock towers, weld the new front towers and a strut bar. Also I just ordered the RSR style front airflow pan from Elephant Racing http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1140387628.gif After all this is finished the car will go back to Import Paint and Body for a full Mexico Blue repaint... More pics soon! |
OMG - sure am looking forward to you comming to the UK now!
Good luck mate - yr gona need it! |
Wow ! Great stuff man. Awesome !

Thank goodness you don't have a budget.
|
Yeah, that stuff looks like junk...I hope you didnt pay that much for it. I mean look at the pistons, they are all high speed glazed or something. Not good at all...

This looks like it's going to be a great project. Take lots of pictures so that we can all plan and dream based on your experience. Get lots of shots of the '74 tub as it is transformed and ask you engine builder to document the build with data and photos. I can't wait!! |
First Of All: I'll second the "Thank god you don't have a budget." comment.
Secondly, Now that you are going to have a '74 chassis why not put some more aggresive cams in that puppy. Emmissions NO LONGER MATTER! ...GOOD LUCK AND THAT IS GOING TO BE ONE AWESOME CAR. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ANOTHER MEXICO BLUE '74 OUT THERE SO PLEASE KEEP US POSTED WITH PIX AND UPDATES. ...lot's of them Cheers, JZ |
Budget? I am scared of putting it all on a spreadsheet... I have been purchasing items one by one... much easier...
Cam choice... I have spoken with Timmins and Camgrinder (Dougherty) about the DC22 choice. This is a street car (my daily driver) and even though I could have gained and extra 15-20hp up there the trade off was driveability. So... if I am really disappointed... we'll swap with something more aggressive later... Having to switch tub is somewhat of a blessing... we can start from the ground up and get rid of all the unnecessary things.... I am dreaming of 2,300lbs and 380 NA horses :D |
unbelievable wow

Those are some craaaazzzzzy nice parts. Good to see the unfortunate wreck is not killing the dream.
I am surprised though that they could not fix youre shell, since the dammage does not look bad at all. When you consider some wrecked cars that get repaired and repaired well at that. I Just hope the mechanic is not being a wuss by not fixing the shell and costing you more $$$. Second opinion would be a good idea but it looks like youre pretty committed your mechanic. If you can I would really apreciate some pics of the torsion tube cut and reinforcing of that area since I am also planing on going with a G50 also. Are you going to shorten the bell housing or just try to squeeze it in there? Now is youre chance to change colors, so whats it going to be? |
livin the dream. very nice!
|
That's going to be an awsome package when its done, I know it's more $$ but have you thought about a 6 spd G50?
|
god, how awesome..and mexico blue, too. i'd hate to guess at costs and a real shame to have to lose your orignal tub..i'm sure you were hoping to keep that if for none other than sentimental reasons. keep the updates coming!

I know where you might get a G50/31, got a spare $6k?

Fantastically interesting project. Thanks for sharing with us here.
Question - I don't recall seeing such heavy crosshatching on cylinder bores before. Is that really that coarse, or is it a photo anomaly??? Thanks again... |
