Nice one Teo,

When are we going to see you put it on the track then :)

stevemfr 03-25-2009 04:21 AM

VFC - very cool!

Matteo, one question I do have about the whole Timmins thing (and I won't touch the subject anymore after this - promise :-) ): Why didn't Zuffenhaus/Eurowerks build your motor? Capacity? Rep?

I'm working on getting my car ready.. How 'bout a Pelican meet-up at the Ring for some sub 8min laps this summer? :-p

cay-ahe 03-25-2009 05:21 AM

Hey Matteo,

Congratulations!! Looks like you'll be back on track very soon. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

Nice recovery!

If you remember the car was meant to be back on the road in a few months.

At the time Zuffenhaus/Eurowerks engine building department was booked up for a while.

Plus I need to be honest here Timmins was much cheaper.... We all know it obvioulsy turned out to be so much more expensive.....

Clearly there were some better alternatives, from Zuffenhaus themselves to Peter Dave or Steve@Rennsport.

It was the only aspect where I was "cheap".... and I ended up paying dearly for that...

I guess the old say "you get what you pay for" can really be applied here.

It goes without saying that if I had to do it again I'd wait 6 months but have the Zuffenhaus boys do from the beginning to the end.

Best of luck with "round 2" Matteo. I've had two engines fail that were "professionally" built, and after that I always built own - with one exception (Peter Dawe) that worked out just fine and dandy. You have a great group of 911 specialists "over there" and I am enjoying your reports on them - the video was a nice teaser!

Enjoy,

Chris

Plot looks promising Matteo :D

I just receivd this from Colin at Ninemeister.

It's the latest dyno chart after we decided to swap my exhaust system (headers+mufflers) with the 9M.

The main reason for doing it in my case was the noise level. Most tracks in the UK now have stringent noise limits (105db at 20 inches) and the previous configuration was a little too loud (108db) which meant I needed to lift off when going past the noise beacons...

Anyway the 9M headers also fit perfectly with the rest of the motor, being built with the same philosophy of increasing the velocity of the gasses to increase the torque.

So the headers are now 1.75" vs 1.875" before.

As you can see the torque curve is a lot smoother and the 9m headers eliminated the huge torque dip at 4,700rpm.

The car is now basically ready to be picked up.

Colin is waiting on this:

http://www.stackltd.com/st430.html

as he found my beautiful Carrera RSR rev counter failed miserably (and you can see it on the youtube clip) to keep up with the engine (too much internal damping?).

I am on holidays right now... but I am soo excited to go back home now and pick up the car....

Sweet!! Saw Colin's post in Rennlist. Very happy for you Matteo. You can finally enjoy that awesome car.

....

Great to see that you are going again w/ such great results. Shows what happens w/ appropriate sizing, lengths and merges

I've seen the same, the stock tach is only a more or less 'guideline' for what the engine is actually doing

mpeastend 04-08-2009 06:43 AM

Excellent Matteo! Best of luck with it!:D

AirCooledExcellence 04-08-2009 08:08 AM

Nice one Matteo, you booked any trackdays yet?

911teo 04-08-2009 08:11 AM

I'd like to make Snetterton on the 8th of May...

Then since I have a lot of free time on my hands I will try and work her out...

MrPerkles 04-08-2009 09:31 AM

be interested in Colins theory re the long trumpets Teo,Jenvey suggested the longest ones I could fit on mine

Be good to see the car in action soon

stevemfr 04-08-2009 10:39 AM

What a beautiful hp line - ahh curve. I do have to admit, I'm just a tad disappointed that the magic 400 was not cracked. You are the role model for my build :)

not that it really matters - just the bragging rights.

Most street cars and street/DE cars will benefit from long intake and exhaust tracks.

Stay tuned... It's not finished yet, there a last minute change that should crack that 400 number....

Short trumpets give you more torque in the middle but sacrifice some top end power. Long trumpets do the opposite, favouring HP at the high end vs torque in the middle range.

Because the cams currently on the car give enough torque in the middle the long trumpets would be ok in the search of the extra power at the top end.

But we are talking about 3-4hp at the top at the most...

It has become clear to Colin that with these heads and the Motec flexibility we can be a little more daring with the cams....

So the DC-62 will be swapped with the 9M racing cams.... the torque curve will not change much (in fact the peak torque numbers will be exactly the same) but it will trail off less dramatically...... 410-415hp at 7k is the expected number on this dyno...
