1) get rich, buy a nice Porsche and leave it alone. If it’s a collectable pay someone to bring it back to it’s as new beauty.
2) if not in the general grouping above, live in California home of truly beautiful people and their Porsches.
3) be a California R Gruppe member. Only then can you visualize and capture what makes an IROC clone.
4) if one is going to clone a great car one must go out and search dusty warehouses (preferably in California) for true race car parts then spend enormous funds in a California specialty house (preferably an advertiser) before having them bolted on.
This projects greatest deficiency was geographical. Excellence is a magazine about Porsche IMAGE and how that can rub off on the owner if they follow the rules above.

Matteo, I recall from another thread, you were looking into building the front rsr fenders in metal? are you having some built or looking at building a few sets. Or were you just thinking about it at this point. I'm looking at the possibility of this for my project. I posted a thread in the body work section but have had little comment on the idea. Are you moving beyond thinking about it? If you are in fact building some can you P.M. me details on costs if you are thinking of building additional sets?
... As for the Excellence side track, I think the Porsche community is better of with it than without it. I did prefer the days when European Car was VW&Porsche IMHO... I'm a VW guy but haven't picked up that mag since the switch...long long ago.

Matteo,

After re-reading through much of this thread and the more recent responses, I have to say congrats once more. Yours just might be the best short-hood hot-rod I've seen thus far. :) There is just so much so right on the car. I'll be sorry to see the five-lug 17s go. To me, they are just sooooooooooooooooooo right.

As to capturing all of the magic on this thread in seven pages, well, I'm not sure that's possible this side of a book, and maybe not even then. This is a different medium, and it sure has its advantages....

pete

Wow Pete what can I say... I am surely flattered by your words....

And about the 5-lugs... I am rethinking that too. Especially now that Zuffenhaus is bringing out the 15-inch forged Fuchs in 9s and 11s...

yes I toyed with the idea of going wide with steel 74-RSR front and rear flares. Especially now that the 917 wheels and centerlock hubs are available (well a couple of months).

But right now I want to drive and enjoy the car... Maybe in a couple of years.

I found a shop herein the UK that would make them for me... a sort of one off though...

I know you have all seen this about a 1000 times on this thread but... What an AMAZING job. Bar none, the best looking Road and Track creation I have seen yet. All I can say is, Well Done!!!

eimkeith 04-07-2008 12:20 PM

74 RSR would be hot! Especially with that wing...

Yep, yep. Keep the 17s for some usage, run the 15s for other things. That said, your car just hits all the right buttons exactly the way it is. At least for me, it does. Whether that's subjective or objective, I don't know, but I do know that cars that look as "right" as yours does aren't easy to come up with, and can easily be unbalanced by as little as one alteration.

I think I even prefer the 17s on your car to the possibility of 15s (which I love...), maybe because then it's instantly recognized as something closer to what it is? I dunno.

If it were mine, it'd be all maintenance from here. I might delete all the decals save the back one, but then that, too, is merely my aesthetic. And, if that thing is anywhere near as good to drive as it is to look at (Bob sure seemed to think so, but was indeed holding back out of respect for 1) your car, 2) a freshly built, untested car, and 3) a new car to him), then it must be insane.

Please be sure to get us some pics of that thing alongside some of the U.K.'s best roads!

John sent me this photo and I hope he does not mind me sharing.

Way to go Matteo, just use it as it was built to be used. Gotta love it.:D:D

+1ish (though I like the black on the sides and the roof decals) but aesthetics is the easy part. The real hard work is all under the skin and it's good stuff. I also love the Lindseys on there but I think the 15s will be perfect from behind the wheel.

Whatever we'd do if it was ours, this car moved the short hood goalposts and no mistake. Well done Matteo, your outstanding commitment in building this has paid off beautifully, and given hot rodders a car to aspire to ;)

Where can I get a pair of those rear deck lid hold-down straps? They look great.

J Smith 05-20-2008 10:06 AM

Don, try TRE.

Here.

I got the ones I use on my race car at Pegasus.

Matteo, congrats on the excellent article in 911 & Porsche World this month.

You, sir, are a celebrity!

couldn't happen to a nicer guy! I will share a little something about our man Matteo with you fellas. When I met Matteo in person, now mind you we'd known each other from the board, but not beyond that, he and his wife, and me and mine were heading off to lunch. So Matteo asks me, 'should we take the Ford GT'? Mind you, the car was brand new, and then he says with keys held out in hand, 'wanna drive'?

Needless to say, I declined.

But it speaks to what a great guy he his and how he views his cars as things to be used and enjoyed, not polished and admired.

Very well said! Speaks volumes! The one and only time I met Matteo was at the open house. He talked to me like he had known me forever, as he did with EVERYONE he met and talked to that day. I was totally impressed. Well done Matteo! You deserve it.

Tell me you didn't think HARD before declining! (Having your wife there probably "aided" your decision, LOL.)

I'd decline too, but, if he asked twice, or insisted, well, I wouldn't want to be rude or anything, ;).

I just didn't want to damage the car, you know how murphys law is, I just thought that God forbid the one time some idoit pulls out in front of me is when I am in another persons car.

But he made up for it by some nice short acceleration runs, man that thing was like being in the millenium falcon going into litespeed!!!

Congrats Matteo! The Excellence write up is kept for almost daily drooling, the pictures were amazing, I can only imagine the love shown to it by 911 & Porsche World.

Teo,

Well done.

That is all, just bloody well done.

Enjoy.
