Porsche Crest HID litronic headlight upgrade

Has anybody tried this setup currently advertised on e-bay?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-911-H5-H-5-Xenon-HID-LITRONIC-Conversion_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQitemZ 8031130335QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

It is supposedly specifically designed for Porsche. I wonder if anybody has installed/tested one.

Thanks!

try this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-911-H5-H-5-Xenon-HID-LITRONIC-Conversion_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQitemZ 8028904246
or search for "Porsche 911 H5 H-5 Xenon / HID / LITRONIC Conversion", they have several auctions for these open.

GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! The e-bay link does not work for any of the auctions. I am doing something wrong!

type or paste: Porsche 911 H5 H-5 Xenon / HID / LITRONIC Conversion in the e-bay search field.

Sorry, just can't get it to work otherwise.

Got it that time,

No experience with these things, just opinions. I would think that they are better than the "blue bulbs" that sucker so many in, but I wonder if a halogen mirror has a different shape than a Zenon one. Physics would say no, but that was many years and beers ago.

Looks like they're fitting an HID bulb into the factory H5 headlight and driving it with a balast.

I'd be curious how the standard encolsure handles the heat. Also, for optimal results, the lens should be designed for HID. That said some like the results anyway.

Lower power consumption/dissipation would indicate it will be less likely to burn the plastic parts than the stock halogen bulb. They claim it only uses 35 watts of power.

I think the lack of low beam/ high beam....even although it's said not to be needed...is bad.

How do you satisfy vehicle inspections to demonstrate a hi/lo beam function ??

Wil,
You don't lose your highg beams at all. You wire the HID into your low beams (which is what you use most often in the burbs anyway) and keep you high beams just as they were.

If you are installing into an earlier car you should use relays and can then up your highs to 100w+

I just installed HIDs in my Audi tonight. Single 'bulb' for high and low beam and they really work. I paid $360 including shipping. They are so bright on low beam, I am a little afraid of how many flashes I will get tomorrow AM - but what a difference!

But... the two bulbs are no longer co-axial.....which was the original design assumption as to how the glass flutes were cut.... I see this as a kludge, until I learn more...

That worked for me!
At least they come from ********** and not some guy in a van somewhere. My guess is they will work as advertised, and for $300 it's a pretty darn good deal! In the past you had to convert H5's to H4's, THEN put a Xenon conversion kit in..

YellowbirdRS - where is the kit you show for H4's sold? How can an HID bulb be added without any ballast?

For a single 'bulb/element' for both hi/low beam - search using 'Bi-xeon'. My Audi has such lousy OEM DOT lights, that I really don't know how effect the hi-beams actually are, but the low beams are SIGNIFICANTLY brighter - almost to the point of being too bright for oncoming drivers, so I pointed them down a bit - but no one has flashed yet.
