Cool RSR replica project update 6

OK it has been a while, but I have finally managed to find the time to post another update.

Hope you enjoy, as always comments appreciated, either good or bad, everyone has the right to an opinion.

Starting with the brakes, using big reds all round and TRG adapters, may have to modify fronts as the disc (rotor) seems a bit of center, I will leave it to my expert mechanic to resolve.

Bilstien coil-overs with club sport settings look fantastic, even if I say so myself.

A view from underneath of the TRG front set up using their 935 bits, wow TRG rocks!!!!!!!!

Instruments in place to check fitting after paint, I decided to use the later 964 instruments as I have a 1994 964 3.6 motor and preferred the updated look. Current Momo wheel will be replaced with a Momo Prototype in black.

Lonesome Recaro SPG in place, still in plastic, awaiting the fitting of its passenger seat. Seat badges are a nice touch.

Windscreen and rear windows in place, door handles on, dashboard top fitted, rear side windows in, things are really starting to take shape.
Man you just gotta luv Continental Orange!!!!!!

Close up view of our filler cap mounted in the bonnet like the old race cars. We used a standard tank and a filler cap from a motocycle which created a nice effect and was very cost effective.

Finally sitting on its wheels, although rear trailing arms still have to be fabricated from stratch as current ones do not line up. The plan is also to paint those magnificent RUF wheels black which should look great against the Orange.

Well thats all for now, I promise the next update will not be as long.

Thanks for looking.

Johny,

Incredible... Nice work!

Can you tell me (and others who might be interested) about your gas tank filler? What kind of gas cap is that? Will it go through the hood?

Nice looking work! Interesting how the color is a little different in each pic, but I like them all.

Maybe try photoshop to see how the wheels would look in black.

GREAT car! What are you fabricating the rear trailing arms from? Why not move the pickup points and use what already exists from Porsche?

Just curious, no knock, I'm sure you already have it figured out.

Beautiful!! How about some engine shots and details on the drivetrain?

Thank you guys for all the great comments.

In answer to some of the questions,

Car has 2 seats, but steering wheel is on the wrong side for USA as it is RHD Euro spec car, chassis was originally 1965 912.

Below is a preview of the motor, a 1994 3.6 964, running RUF engine management chip, PMO 50mm carbs, special free flow race exhaust (still being made) solid engine and gearbox mounts, 915 box.

We are using the original trailing arms from a 1972 car but they have been modified to accomidate rear wheels being 335's. Not sure of all details as it was done by my mechanic, I will post photos when I have some.

Gas cap was originally from a motorbike tank, see photo below, and will fit through the hood, second photo shows this before painting.

Lastly wheels have already been painted black and look fantastic against the orange, RUF lettering in orange maybe a bit over the top but it finishes things off nicely, I think.

That has GOT to be one of the coolest fuel filler caps, ever.

Rest of the car is damn sweet too...especially the little details like the colour coded dash.

Cool.

Observations:

1) Obviously you are not married, or will soon be divorced cuz that car is hotter than any chick I have ever seen.

2) You are one of the latest lotto winners.

3) Your taste in Porsches, on a scale of 1-10, is about a 100.

4) Your mechanic loves you.

5) My 82 needs a new paint job, dash, seats, wheels, fuel filler, front air dam, yadda yadda yadda.

Is this car really in South Africa? Tell us a bit about the local Porsche scene there.

Heh Nickatnyt

Thanks for comments, In answer to your questions,

1) I am married but have the best wife in the world, her attitude is you earn it you spend it no issues. her passion is horses so as long as she can have her farm and horses she does not care how many Porsche's or other cars I have, and she is way hotter than the car.

2) I have been very lucky in building this car, so far I have bought 3 cars for spares and just sold off what I do not need in most cases at a great profit. while the car has cost me more than i originally budgeted, I have changed the specifications and here locally in SA could sell it for about 50% more than what it has cost me so that is cool.

3) My passion for all cars is way out of control you are right about that.

4) My mechanic and I are great friends, most of the time he wants to kill me as I see a part I like buy it and it never fits and he has to modify it. Or I change my mind every 5 minutes about what we are doing with the car with add on's. He says I am only qualified to make the coffee and only if some else puts the kettle on as I am dangerous around anything electric. Although he has enjoyed the project, it will definitely be the last one on this scale that he does.

5) Send your 82 and a big fat payment over he to SA and we will fix it up no problem. Although the talent there in the USA is amazing when it comes to cars.

Car is really here in SA, actually in Durban. Local scene is great but small, Porsche club has about 250 -300 members I think with a probably the same amount of owners who are not members. My figures could be way out but last Porsche parade there were about 120 cars.

Johnny, awesome looking car, it must be a real fun project with all of the little unique pieces you have in the suspension and the gas filler. I have a few questions though: when you hooked up all of the 964 gauges, did you get all of them to work? ie. the gas gauge and oil gauge? I have a 964 3.6 in my car and have only hooked up the tach so far. Also, in the picture where you show the engine bay, what is the purpose of cutting out all of the firewall? I bet it must sound good though.

Johnny

I have been anxiously awaiting your update. The car looks fantastic!!! It reminds me of where I was with my RSR about 6 months ago.
I bet you can't wait to get it on the road. I am sure it won't disappoint. What are your plans for the car? Street rod vs track car vs race car?

Keep us updated.
