RSR style Fuchs

I just finished refinishing my Fuchs. I bead blasted my wheels and then clear coated them. Then I masked them and shot them with black single stage paint. The clearcoat made the bead blasted Alu a little darker than anodizing would have. So if I do this again I will paint the wheels silver first instead of clear.

I can't seem to upload pics now.

They look great, Dean. I am anxious to see this look on the car.

I see what you mean by the clear being shiny. I kind of prefer the "matte" look, but those wheels will be beautiful. Nice job.

i have a set of lindseys on order in the rsr finish. they basically weld the center to the bbs barrel and bead blast the whole thing and for powdercoating they use a frosted clear. they have in the past polished the outside rim but this takes the powdercoat off and leaves raw aluminum. i've bead blasted aluminum castings also and i get the darker/slightly blueish color after putting a clear coat on the parts also. the wheels look great, the gloss clear is likely easier to clean.

Thanks for the comments.

I would have prefered a more matte finish also and not so shiny but I had the clear hangin around for years and wanted to use it on something. Plus it was an experiment in low maintanence RSR wheels. I don't even know if the clear will hold up on Alu. Dupont didn't recommend clearing Alu. Here is a pic of beadblasted wheel that has a conversion coating on it.

A conversion coating is basicly an acid type product that you treat bare Alu with before painting. Different companys have different products.

From the picture, the conversion coating looks a lot like the original RSR finish, if you highlighted it with black. Is it the kind of thing that would stand up to any use?

What do you mean, 'RSR Style Wheels'? Are they 9 & 11x15's?

No I don't think the conversion coating would stand up any better than bare Alu. It is just to prep the Alu. for painting.

The wheels are 7"& 8" x16. I called them RSR style cause they aren't real RSR wheels

Thanks
Dean

See my thread..."Economy RSR finish"....
