This object is stuffed under the right rear fender on my 86 930.. 2 Qs - 1. what is it?? ...and 2. how can I remove it ( is it just the one bolt that is exposed that I need to remove?) As you might be able to tell by the pic, as a winter project, I am in the process of undercoating the vehicle with POR15 and would like to remove this if not too difficult in order to get behind it properly. Of course, I will reattach it when finished. Just want to make sure I won't be asking for trouble.
Thanks ~ Jerry ![]() ![]()

I hope it's not ticking......kidding. Anyhow, not sure what that is, but it seems to have some type of air flow hoses? Just a guess.
Good luck,

I tlook slike the canister for the A/C system, the ones that holds the condensation. Then again it could be a charcoal canister for the smog.

Not A/C-that's the dryer in the front LH fender. Something to do with smog probably, or some kind of relief valve for vacuum system?

I don't know if John is right this time, I think RSBob is a little closer to the correct answer.

Hi Jerry, not wanting to change from the original subject, but could you give some more details about your project? I am going to do the same job this spring, and was wondering how to get round all the stuff under the front of the car. Did you remove it all to be able to get in there, or are you just putting the POR15 round it all?? Additionally, how did you remove all the old stuff first?

Hi Jerry,
I've done the project already. It's realy easy to remove the cannister. Just remove the bolt from the bracket (underneath the cannister). The bracket itself sits in place with two nuts. There might be a lot of dirt behind it, especially in the corner with the panel which holds the door striker plate. Before: ![]() New bracket: ![]() ![]() After: ![]() Kees. ![]() |

Kroggers - I'm mechanically "challenged", so I removed only those things that I could easily remove. ( covers, spoiler attachments, etc...) and I'm painting the entire underside with a very small brush.. seems to be able to get to all the places I want to so far. I pulled the rockers and the rear bumper off also and cleaned up those areas as well. ... as far as the old stuff, I am just covering it after a thourough cleaning. 2 or 3 thin coats seems to be working nicely... I'm really happy with the way it looks.

Thank you for the info. I will probably work to remove the old stuff first, as I want to make sure there is no rust there before I put on the POR15...
