Red face On the way to work my tach stopped working!!!

It stopped because voltage was dropping and all the functions of my car started to go after that.

until it stopped running completely.

alternator was going but warning light was burned out so i was unaware.

finally battery died and then the power pull was to much for the already faltering alternator and it went also.

I have since replaced the bulb and am going to replace alternator at lunch then i also have a warrantied battery and will replace that when i am done.

It would be helpful if you told us what car you are talking about. Did the odometer quit too?

It's just a sign that you're about to sell your car. Didn't you now that most of the 911's which are for sale have a speedo that recently stopped?

I have a '76 911s with a 79 3.0 and this happened to me both my speedo and odometer stopped at the same time. I replaced the sender, that brought the speedo back to life, but off by 10mph, so at 0 it says 10. And the odometer still does not work. Do I need a new one?

You need to remove the speedometer and send it off to be repaired. The odometer fault is an internal problem and while it's being fixed, it can be calibrated and cleaned. Try North Hollywood Speedometer.
