One, that is not an SL in any way shape or form. Two, that bar looks more cosmetic than anything.

It also seems to add zero to the cosmetic appearance of the car.

Noah,
That's exactly the point. It is there to draw your eye away from the inate beauty of that Mustang/SL.

Handbag handle.
Would possibly fit the new Volvo C70 cab though. It looks like a total bathtub. There goes the neighborhood. No, wait, its already sold out. Good riddens. Volvo lost touch years ago anyway.

You guys don't understand. Sorry, I wasn't clear.
I have a convertible and want something to make it a little more rigid but not the rollcage. Something looks nicer. I don't race the car though. I saw this bar, and another one of the old SL style once in a while but I can't find pics. THe one on the SL looks much nicer but similar to this. I didn't know this bar is only for look, and is all plastic. I thought the plastic is only the cover to male the roll bar look nicer. If it is just plastic, why the hell do I spend money and time on it? Thanks all.

I dont know much about the whole mustang thing, but I do know a little about the Mercedes. The SL has a rollbar that actually pops up under hard cornering as well as if you have people sitting in the back seat, a rare option, they tell you to have the bar in the up position, has a switch like the boxster/996 spoiler. This makes the rollbar on the SL similar to the convertable 996 that pops up to protect the driver in case of a roll over. Either way I think its a good look and, if designed correctly to provide structural support, is an awesome feature.

The first SLs to have a roll bar was the R129 series starting in 1990. The SLs previous to that did not have roll bars, nor were there any offered from the factory.

If I were looking for extra rigidity in a Cab, I'd be gusseting all over the interior before adding something above to both ruin the lines of the car and add weight where you don't want it.
You might want to consult with Tyson here on the BBS. He's the king of stiffies (chassis, that is).

PorscheGuy79,
why not getting a coupe? I don't think this opinion related to the topic AT ALL. techweenie, Thanks for the info and opinion. The reason why I think about this is rigitity and also the safty (as GenX Porsche said above) protecting my head, and also the look. I don't know about other part of the world but here in CA, I have seen them on the older SL and sometimes Mustand a lot of time but I never can see one of the SL on the interenet, never the 911 either. I think it look nice and most important is that can provide the functionality as the roll cage and is nicer. I don't know why there are so much ignorant people ditching others interested without having any detail info of the topic yet. Thanks to all those who gave me your opinion and info.
