front sway bar bushing replacement

I am replacing my whole ac system on my 82 911sc and noticed the rubber bushing on the front swaybar are deteriorated. the front suspension is unloaded . what surprises should I expect when I take off the sway bar to replace the bushings?

No surprises there.
Simply remove the old ones and replace with new.
might want to use a samll amount of grease so the new bushings slide on easier.

I had to loosen the A-arms to get the sway bar back in. Not a big deal...just a few bolts.

I 'Spanish windlass'd' the bar and it slipped right in without additional disassembly. Use a silicone lube for rubber bushings, (Dow DG4 or any di-electric). Petro grease may attack the rubber.

i did it without loosening the a-arms. you just need to lub as noted above, get one side started and run it by as far as you can to get the other side into the keep on the AA. don't hook up the bar to the cross member until you have both sides in the aa 's and centered. it also helps to jack the car up so the AA's hang down a bit.

i did it with the bigger carrera sways to boot.

I had to loosen theA arms on my '80. Just couldn't get the arm to slide in without pushing the rubber out of its keeper.
Worst job I've done to date & that includes exhaust stuff.
Finished the rear last weekend & it was a breeze.

Wow, I did mine with the car sitting on its tires in the garage. Got one side in [ I recall pushing the end in deeper then it would be when all said and done] and then worked the other side in without an issue. Both bushings where lube with silicone spray. It was a 20 minute job with most of the time used up R&R the plate...this was on a 78SC

Looks like I'm going to be doing the same job...order parts and hoping it's as easy as it sounds/looks when the parts arrive.

Noticed most of the bushing missing...when starting a brake job.

Glad I noticed, probably would have not passed inspection at the track.

I just did my sway bar again and this helped a lot!




It helped me to bend the bar enough to get in into the bushing.
