Replacing door checks, help!
I am trying to replace the worn out original door checks on my SC. I am having trouble getting the original pin out. I have managed to tap it down to being flush with the tab sticking out of the frame, but I can't get it any further. I have tried a punch and hammer but there just isn't any room to get a good swing/hit on the punch. I tried using vise grips and wigggle it out, but this sucker doesn't want to go.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic. of my problem. The blue tape was my attempt on saving the paint from the hammer.

I wish I could offer some advice, but I am in the same boat as you. I couldn't get my pins to budge, so I moved on to the next project. I'm interested in a solution as well!

Center punch and drill it out.

Couldn't you adapt or fabricate a small press for this task? What if you notched a small C-clamp so it slips around the bottom portion and then gently presses the pin out?

Go get a long solid metal dowel (18 inches or so) from Home Depot. You will be able to slide this down onto the pin with plenty of room above to get a good swing and not have window frame in the way. I got mine out using an old extra long phillips screwdriver. I ground down the tip until it was flat and used the same method as above; I just had the screwdriver laying around and didn't care if it got ruined (it was from one of those cheepo sets I bought years ago). Good luck

I used a brass drift and a 20lb hammer, using the same method as the post above and it drove out.
My question, and not hijack the thread but now that my drivers door is replaced it's a bit hard to close, should it be? I have the Pelican replace kit, not the added strenght plate however.

since they're new, they are going to be a little more difficult to close...
as for pin removal... you could grab the pin w/ vice grips and wiggle the door to relieve the tension from the pin while you're pulling/twisting on it |

I have already removed the 2 screws hold the door check mechanism to the door, so there isn't any tension on it.
I think the pin is too close to the body to get a drill in there, but I will certainly give it try.
