question: I have a crack hose. Please read

After several searches on "high idle", I read about vacuum hose etc. I went and check and found that I have this crack hose here (pic below). I am not sure what this crack can do to the performance but I want to replace it. It is not a normal hose. It's offset and short. Do I have to buy the whole assembly (hose and metal pipe) or I can use a normal gas/oil hose at autopart store?

Earlier this week I replaced a few hoses on my 3.2 Carrera. The one in your picture was one of those. However i chose not to purchase that particular part because of the price ($123 part # 930 110 328 05).
So here is what I did:

1.Removed the pipe from the car
2. Cut the factory crimp off the pipe which left me with just the metal pipe.
3. Next I cut a 1 inch piece of 3/8" hose and slid it over the pipe making it flush with the end, then I cut a 2 to 3 inch piece of 5/8 hose and slid it over the 3/8" hose and clamped it. Re-installed the whole piece and clamped the new hose onto the connector.

I'm pretty picky about work done on my car and do not usually rig any parts or repairs, but this time due to the excessive cost I made an exception. And to the untrained eye the repair looks great

I do not have pics, but will take some tomorrow afternoon and post them. What I did was very simple, I'm not sure that my descriptioin was understandable. Basiclly you have a rubber hose connecting the smaller dia pipe to a larger dia pipe. I used the 3/8" hose as sort of a bushing inside the 5/8" hose to fit on the smaller dia pipe.

Woa...for a minute thier I thought you said "crack ho".

I got a used fuel line from Carquip in Boulder CO. a while back. I'd call around and see if you can find what you are looking for on the cheap. A lot of folks put carbs on these cars so there is a market for used OEM intake stuff if you shop around.

I found that I have a similar hose from my old MB. same size I think. It's the one from the valve cover to the carb. THe thing is that this hose is shape as an angle. Well, your method just works fine.
What is this hose? Is it gas or air or oil?

On my car, this rubber hose/adapter (pic#1 below) look a little diff than yours. One end is bigger in diameter than the other end. It looks almost like pic#2 below.
Where did you get that short rubber hose which has one end is bigger than the other end? If it's hard to find, I will go with KCinBR's path.

Pic #1 is just a straight hose. It may very well be joining 2 different diameter hoses though. You say your's looks different, does it look like this (from a 1989)?

KC mine looks like the one in the picture and was also cracked and I am cheap. I took it off, filled the cracks in with rubber cement and then wrapped it tightly with vinyl tape for extra measure. Two years later still working just fine.

On my car, the hose on pic#1 look like the hose on pic#2, diff diameter at each end.

yes, that hose on my car looks like what you were talking about.

Audi makes a part that fits perfectly in the this application; I believe it's a coolant hose, but I don't have the part # handy. It's very cheap,

I've used the two hoses trick, but recently had this part replaced at a hydraulic shop-they cut off the old fitting and were able to crimp on a hose with the right id to fit on the open end. The crimp secured the hose well enough. Its on an application that sees both vaccum and now boost, and its been fine.
