Help.. Spark plug order

Resealed the engine, replaced oil lines and upgraded to magnacor spark plug wires, my help did a great job except for misplacement of the spark plug wires.

My label for the fire order is history so I need help. Car now backfires, smokes and after running for 10 min. during troubble shooting, I noticed that the cat was red hot. I have attached a .pic with my guess for wire placement. I am matching 1 with 1 and 2 with 2 etc...

If anyone could identify or verify the correct order, I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks

88 3.2 911 carrera

1-6-2-4-3-5 so it looks like you've got it right on the distributor.

Check to ensure all the plug wire connectors are seated correctly at the plug and distributor cap. Is the distributor cap down squarely?

Firing order is 1-6-2-4-3-5 so you have it right on the picture but how did you identify which is #1? #1 on my '85 3.2L is the terminal closest to the blower housing, around 3 o'clock looking straight down. You can also check by rotating the crank pulley clockwise, lining up the Z1 mark on the crank pulley with the mark on the blower housing, the rotor will either point to #1 or #4. If #4, rotate again until Z1 lines up.

I found the spark plug wires crossed under the air condition and what I thought was 6 was 5. WOW I felt a little crazy after spending 5 hours trying to solve this and it was right under my nose...

Thanks all for your help.

Dad gave me some great advise 35 years ago. ALWAYS replace spark plug wires one at at time. Some things never change!
