Unhappy ANDIAL Closed

Kind of sad to see one of the most well known Porsche Race Shop's in the world close it's doors.

I thought they were just getting out of the shop business and going to parts only.

From what I remember on another post its rumored that PMNA has taken over their facilities because they are just across the way. All the parts and other stuff is being moved to a warehouse and will be sold off. Dont know if that is the total story but reading between the lines thats what I came up with. If you had been doing it for thirty years wouldnt you want to retire? I think the story was rather than hand it over to someone else and possibly spoil the name and reputation they thought it wiser to simply close the doors and say we had a good run of it. There are still plenty of great porsche shops around, just not as many with their rep and track record.

Wow. What a shame. It was the cleanest shop I ever saw. You could eat off the floor.

Hopefully PMNA will make good use of the new property.

...well said Porschekid962.

I work across the street and can see them from my office window. I'm sure gonna miss the sounds of the P's driving by and most of all the smell of the racing fuel on certain days.

George,

I work at one of the two black buildings off of Garry and Harbor. I'm surprised I haven't seen your M491 drive by! We need to hook up for lunch one of these days.

Sure thing, let's just call it a business lunch though. Hook up might be taken the wrong way.

I second the cleanliness comment, although the RUF shop is impressive as well. Quite an operation and stopped by totally by chance while on vacation in Germany. I was with my mother and sister, had just turned 16 and got to drive our rental car (C36 AMG) on the autobahn. Talk about living a dream as a young guy. We stopped for lunch at a little town off the autobahn and as we were driving out of town I noticed a sign with the RUF logo, I followed it and wound up at the factory, pretty fun for an accident. Got to have a little tour and look around at the cars they were working on.

Its a good thing some of us live in socal and there are porsche shops aplenty, however, none stack up to what Andial was.

I don't know, if I were about to retire and someone wanted to pay me for Andial's "Goodwill", inventory, equipment, notes and the such, I'd say "Let's make a deal!" It's done every day in the business world. Check out the history of Honeywell and Allied Signal. I think that they missed the opportunity to cash-out on the value of that 30+ years of business. The liquidation value of a company such of this is often a lot less then the acquisition value. I'm no M&A expert, but this is fairly common economics.

Hopefully after a breather; Arnold, Dieter and Alvin will become regulars on this Forum. They have a lot to offer. I knew all three at VP in the late ’60s & early ‘70s. Great guys all.

John, I did the same thing quitting: Otherwise you end up having to carry the paper, training people, dealing with transition problems and more. A nice clean stop is wonderful. I wish my friends the best.

Best,
Grady

I believe the other thread mentioned that they tried to sell for quite a while.

John: Are you familiar with the Allied/Honeywell NJ headquarters? I live very close.

Grady is being too modest here guys. Before Andial, before Garretson Enterprises, there was Rennenhaus of Denver, Co.
They modeled their businesses after Grady's...and why not?
The first time I walked in to Grady's shop, I was floored by the organization, the cleanliness & the skill of the mechanics. Grady, you haven't been to Rothsport in Tualatin, OR. You'd feel feel right at home.

Sorry Grady, but I can guarantee you that you will get hit by lightning or hell will freeze over before the above ever happens. I've known all 3 professionally & socially for 20+ years and it will never happen. I can't speak for Alwin (who hasn't been associated with Andial for a number of years and is enjoying his grandchildren in retirement) but Arnold & Dieter are not fond of the internet.

Darn...that would be our loss. Well, on 2nd thought, guess you can't lose something you never had, right?

It seems Grady was born 'too modest.'

But none of us is fooled. We know he's great.
