Where to mount crankfire coilpack on CIS engine?
Usually, I see the coil packs on a shelf off of the rear suspension crossmember.
But on my car, all that CIS stuff is in the way. I don't want to put it under the oil filter... Anyone have a tidy installation idea? TIA

I did this...
http://members.rennlist.org/dougcl/911S010.jpg not sure if I would call it tidy, but perhaps this will get the thread rolling. I made my own panel. I would rather fit them in there with the stock panel in place. Doug |

Saw a picture of one coil pack that was mounted where the distributor came out. A little metal work to bend up and mount a shelf, and it appeared to fit nicely. Raise it up just high enough to clear the sensor that you will probably mount to the old distributor clamping stud.
If I can remember where I saw that pix, I'll post it back to you. PS: on second thought, the coil pack was a Ford EDIS pack. Last edited by Brian K. Haggard; 04-28-2006 at 07:47 AM.. |

Personally I think this location is the best:

Craig, I like that location, but the crankfire system has tuning settings and also contains the coils, so I'd be running the sparkplug wires through the firewall, which bothers me, for some reason.

You'd be running plenty of other wiring; I'd just do the small hole w/ a grommet and have the engine compartment nice & uncrowded.
Other people really like the 'wow, look at all my trick stuff' look when they open up the engine lid, so I suppose it's also a matter of subjective preference.

Does anyone run their 6-plug coils inside the car? My engine compartment is rapidly becoming crowded with Intercooler, supercharger, etc. I'm considering building up a mounting panel to quick-release (butterfly dzus-style) to the firewall and then mount my ignitors, ECU, MAP sensor and relay panel to that. I'm also considering putting the twin EDIS 6-post coils on that or another panel inside the passenger compartment.
Advantages...1. accessibility (engine bay very crowded) 2. Weight is farther forward and lower 3. would look pretty cool Disadvantages...1.would require running the wires through the firewall (pic below of a potential solution 2. increased electrical field interference? that would be 12 high-tension wires in close proximity to the ECU (which uses a bluetooth transmitter/receiver to connect to my laptop during tuning and logging) 3. twice as many connections to come loose. Here's a solution Summit sells, interested in comments... ![]()

I run a 6 of my dual plug coils on the engine side of the fire wall. I have my ecu and ignition driver box on the inside of the firewall like it craigs pic.
Cheers

![]() ![]() With our CIS to EFI conversion, we mount the EDIS coil pack here..... ![]() Dont know if theres enough room w the crank fire, but it may be worth a look. Len@autosportengineering.com ![]() |
