911/01 transmission internals question

Well, after inspecting all the internal parts of my 911/01 transmission the only wearing I could find was on the 1st gear slider and reverse gear. I could not find any wear on the syncros or dog teeth of any gear. The weird part is I got grinding going into 2nd gear, but looking at everything 2nd gear is fine. Is this possible or am I just blind when it comes to inspecting these parts? Can the 1st gear slider and reverse gear be the only parts that wear without other parts wearing? I wish I could post pics but I can't find my damn camera
Thanks.

any polishing on the curved surface of the syncro ring can cause grinding. the grinding is the teeth on the shift sleeve contacting the teeth on the dog tooth ring at different speeds because the syncro didn't slow down or speed up the free-wheeling gear to match the speed of the driven gear as the shift sleeve passed over it. the syncro's friction surface condition is very important. brake bands and the condition of the inner leading tooth face of the shift sleeve are other issues that affect shifting quality.

Amir,

Have you disassembled 2nd gear syncro? There can be all sorts of subtle (or at least not obvious) issues that can conspire to prevent good synchronizations.

Lay the pieces out in their original orientation and post some good clear images. The Forum can lead you through the process.

Best,
Grady
