Question How to replace speedometer light bulb?

One of the 2 light bulbs on mine seems to have blown and I'd like to check/replace it.

I pulled the speedo but how do I remove the bulbs? Are they screwed in? Pressed in? or ???

Only thing I can tell is the one that doesn't seem to work is spring loaded - I tried to pull it and it spring back into position.

thanks.

Once you get the bulb socket out of the gage, just push the bulb in and rotate 90 degrees. The bulb will simply pull out after that.

Cool Speedo Bulbs.....

Use a small bladed screwdriver or a pocket knife to ease the bulb holders from the speedo. Don't pull on the wires. You run the risk of having a bulb drop into the instrument. It is not easy to get them back out!

Good luck!

Hi Fred,

Yes - did that (pulled the wire ) and I could hear the bulb bouncing in the speedo now...

Does the bulb holder simply pulls out?

Cool Bulbs....

Yes, the bulb holders simply pull out. They are a "firm" fit so you will usually need to use a tool to get them started out.

I went to local dealer and they were about $5 each but the identical VW bulbs were $1.20.

Check out the LED upgrade available from a member in this site. Totally worth it.
