Easiest way to replace window switch...

my driver's side window switch is dead, already have a new one in hand. I was able to pop out the current one, but didn't disconnect anything.

Found the diagrams through search, although for an 84, I have an 88. Easiest way to do this, and will I electrocute myself

You won't electrocute yourself, but you could always disconnect the battery if you want to. If there is enough wire slack to move them one at a time from switch to switch that would be the best, otherwise write down each wire color and the terminal number it goes, a diagram would not hurt nor would taking a picture with a digital camera before you disconnect anything.

are the wires hot if the key isnt in the ignition and turned? or is it a connect the ground kinda thing where its hot all the time? i swapped mine out without disconnecting a thing. I guess you could get a voltmeter and test the wires to see if any are hot.

You don't need to disconnect the battery, but you really need to learn how to do so in case of an emergency. There are several different colored wires so draw a diagram.

You can pop them in and out. Draw a diagram, then replace one at a time.

Then only snag you could hit is while you are pulling the switch out, the slack could not be enough and the wires could pull off the post.

Put feet in bucket of water, turn on ignition switch and remove wires. Sorry I must be grumpy too. Actually I just did this 2 weeks ago - just remove one wire at a time and install on new switch. If it takes more than 2 minutes you are doing something wrong.

If you don't want to learn how to disconnect a battery, I hope you got lots of money cause things get pretty expensive when you don't do it yourself.

Battery is located in front of car on the drivers side. Knowing this you should be able to disconnect it since you do a lot of stuff yourself. If this doesnt help get a pair of bolt cutters so you can cut the wires.

Get Wayne's 101 Projects book and Bentley's Manual. They are worth their weight in gold.
