Lose the console. Where to put AC controls?
Has anyone with an SC with AC removed their console, and if so, where did you put your AC controls?

Why not save some weight and lose the ac?

I would think because of the capillary tube you can't move it somewhere else so you would have to build a holding bracket of some sort in the same location.

My thoughts exactly as far as the ac removal. I think the biggest hinderance is the possible sale of your car to someone else with the useless ac removed. Then they can pretend it works I guess.
They drain horsepower, add weight, obstruct the engine servicing, and usually don't work. |

I'm not sure I'm ever going to sell it. I have a 19 year old who's a car freak and a 16 year old who just got his permit. I've had the car since new. I'd rather pass it on someday than get 10-12k (if that much) for it in another 20 years.

RS,
I am considering doing the same thing and would be interested in what you end up doing. I considered fabricating a small bracket and splicing into the wires if i needed to make them longer and mounting them under the heater controls another option would be to mount them so they come through the dash with your other controls but that would mean a couple of new holes. I have the ac deleted but still have the fan hooked up also. It really puts fresh air in the car on rainy days when I have the top on. I really hate the center console and like the clean look of it removed. Good Luck, Shane

FWIW, some guy on the board did it. He took out the ashtray and put the knobs there.

The temp control switch has a thin copper tube usually covered with a white vinyl exterior you don't want to kink that line.

The capillary tube comes out the back of the switch and is necessary for the control to work. You can't buy just the tube though the switch complete is available from the dealer. Not cheap.
I have read is some of the threads in here and other forums that you can use some type of generic switch and tube, which should be available at your local independent AC shop. As far as a mount, why not fabricate a simple little panel that hangs under the dash or if you are a non-smoker, that replaces the ashtray and is inset a bit in that spot. should be easy, and the wires would be easily long enough.

Sounds about right. I also need to put the hazard switch there because I have a voltmeter where the hazard switch was and had the hazard switch in the left side of the console.

Check out my linked pictures. I just zip tied it to the ashtray spot for now and put some plastic wire tubing cover over the wires. I'll eventually get a non-rear speaker fader mount.
Please excuse the interior. I'm converting it to black. David

What was the missing switch in the middle? Mine doesn't have that. I'm going to make an aluminum panel thats fits flush with the opening, has the 2 ac switches, and my hazard switch in the middle.

this was a quick, easy, free solution until i feel like some fabrication.
