Doc was nice enough to give a tour of Air Cooled Classics last week, and I can not express how amazing mpeastend's IROC looks. Actually I was there when the rear wheels were being fitted, I would have made off with them, but I can figure out a way to fit Lindseys on a Mazda 3...

Don't take this the wrong way but why have you gone with those door mirrors? They are pretty ugly in my opinion. Forgive my ignorance but are they what the original would have had?

Thanks Theo...yours is unbelievable.

David...as far as I know, they are the proper mirrors for the car. Hard to find...these are reproductions from China that I had to wait a year for. The quality isn't very good. I hope to find real ones down the road.

Man, what a stance that thing has. I know it's not going to, but it sure looks like the rears will rub at the first bump. When is the forst track day!?

Matteo, up close those repro mirrors are crap.

Jake, when I get the car home I will be replacing the whole suspension w/coilover JRZ's & ERP. The car is riding way too low right now. It won't stay that way.

I got my mirrors form TRE. Hopefully they are good quality.
Otherwise I will mount my old Vitaloni California ones. They are round, but look really nice.

luvndasun- there is no engine/tranny right now...still have to arrange something. There is no interior either. When I get the car back I will put Recarop Pole Positions in and RS America door panels (w/aluminum bezels). I originally thought I would put in a thin carpet kit but have changed my mind (for now).

Wow, time has passed since an update! I picked up the car and brought her home. I wasn't able do alot of the things I wanted to while my engine & tranny were being built due to timing issues. I dropped the car off at Auto Associates of Caton Ct in the first week of Nov. There's been alot of progress...the engine/tranny are in the car & running. They are just waiting for a 50+ degree day to dyno tune it. In the meantime, Scott & the guys at AA are installing my JRZ coilover suspension, tying up electrical loose ends, fixing a miscalculation of mine regarding backspacing on the rear Lindseys and doing the hundreds of little things that need to be dealt with in a soup-to-nuts project such as this.

I would just like to say to anyone in the tri-state area, if you're not happy with your shop & need work done by the best, there are none better than Auto Associates. The project manager/shop manager Scott is incredible to work with...always has time to speak to you, knows your project inside & out and is always ready to discuss it in detail (I have no idea how he keeps all the projects straight in his head...there are numerous ones going on at any given time). Apparently the lucky few enthusiasts who have real factory race cars feel the same way. I always see incredible machinery up there...not unusual for me to be walking through the facility w/Scott, stop dead in my tracks staring at a car and ask "is that a real one?" What I really like about the shop is that everyone is down-to-earth and they treat everyone the same whether you have an unobtanium or "regular" street car. The shop is very low key and just geared to turning out top-quality work. I probably don't need to remind anyone here that they are Manhattan trophy winners and Bruce Anderson thought enough of them to put the shop on the cover of the 1st edition of his 911 Performance Handbook.

AA was able to find a pristine G50 5 spd for rebuilding/shortening:


They were likewise able to find an excellent 964 engine for rebuiding:
