What does a factory 82 SC tail look like?
Does anyone have a picture?
Thanks, Sean

It is a one piece design incorporating the lid and tail base, w/ a separate p/u lip around the trailing edge and sides

Bill,
Normally I would defer to your input but I think the only tails Porsche offered in 1982 would have been the Turbo tail with the boxed off area to accommodate the intercooler: ![]() and then perhaps the all PU tail, which was just bolted on a regualr decklid, for the RoW market: ![]() ![]() The only time Porsche offered the tail you posted in the 1980's was on the 1980 Weissach 911, right? The factory-installed "teatray"-type on the '82s is the turbo-spoiler, have the word PORSCHE in the center of the fiberglass below the rubber, also the Porsche crest just above on the rubber. That's how you can tell it is factory-original. See W.Dempsey's book, 101 Projects for Your Porsche 911..., p.198.

All 3 of those tails were offered from ~'75 to '83
The all f/g w/ rubber lip is most closely associated w/ the SCs, though the early 930(thru '77) used a variation on it the tea tray is most closely associated w/ the 930 the p/u was a factory part that was usually added at the dealership.

Bill, in the one piece in your picture I don't see a 911 SC name plate. Was this how they came from the factory?

Here's a photo of a 5,000 mile 1980 Weissach 911:
![]() http://www.ingramcollection.com/porsche/1980/911_sc_weissach_coupe/ Bill, Can you reference where and on what 911 the early turbo/C3/Weissach tail was offered after the 1980 Weissach 911? I don't ever remember seeing offered as a factory option on any 911, RoW or US, after '80. |
