Factory Option Codes - 1971
I've been going back and forth with Porsche on my COA since April due to numerous errors on it. I won't bore you with the details.
One of the most frustrating things is that the COA doesn't show the factory LSD, which the original owner (who owned the car until 2002) was very proud of. Porsche said they are not surprised that it isn't reflected on it, as the records back then are really poor. Anywho, subsequent investigation by someone at the factory found the following codes on my car's build sheet: A82 102 402 The problem is that they don't know what these codes mean. Anyone on the board able to help out? Thanks, in advance. John |

John,
Unfortunately I gave away my stock of original Porsche material 20+ years ago. Today I rely on Bruce Anderson’s book Porsche 911 Performance Handbook and http://www.kindel.com/porsche/options.asp for option codes. Neither shows A82. You might research that as a paint code. BA shows M402 as “Stabilizer bars & Koni shocks, 1973-1976.” Kindel shows 402 as “50 year anniversary car [1982].” Neither shows a M102 or 102. M221 is the common option for the 40% LSD. You should be able to inspect the transmission numbers under the differential (please post a photo) and see if there are the digits “12” between the transmission number and the type number. It should be the form “7X1xxxx 12 911/zz” where X=1= standard ratio or X=3=optional ratio, xxxx=sequential number, zz=01=standard ratio or zz=80=Standard-special option or other. The “12” is the clue it originally has a LSD. Best, Grady

Grady,
Thanks for your reply: M402 - Could indeed be "Stablizer bars & Koni shocks", as that is what the car came with. A82 - Hmmm. I'll have to keep looking for that one, as the COA already shows the paint code as 8080 (Silver Metallic) M102 or 102 - I'll have to keep looking as well. I appreciate the guidance on the LSD as well. I'll get under there and have a look. 1 down, 2 to go; anyone else have an idea? Cheers, John |

Any other ideas? I'm pulling my hair out going back and forth with Porshe on this. They are about as motivated and responsive as my 13 year-old car with anger management issues.
