Dumb speaker/radio question

The last time I looked at radio/speakers for a noisey 911 was 20 years ago.
This is for a partial interior car using the lower door or kick (map pocket) panel locations for 2 speakers. The radio is a early 90's Porsche CD-2 (Alpine) no glitz or glitter - black face. (If the doors are used the speakers will have to be flush to avoid interfence with roll cage bars).

Multi part question: would 5.25" or 4x6" speakers be better?

If the 5.25" which of the these would work/better/best with the CD-2?
Rockford Fosgate P152C
Pioneer TS G1311R - Shallow Basket
Alpine SPS 13c2 Type S

Or

if the 4x6" which would work/better/best?
Rockford Fosgate P1462C
Kicker KS46 Series 05KS46
Alpine SPS 46C2

Lets say I have a "tin ear"...this will be a radio for companion on long trips/ local weather type use.

OR - Option "B"-would I be better off (and less weight) using a portable Sony radio with ear buds hanging off the roll bar?

Appreciate your opinons.
Bob

I have a set of Infinity Kappa 5.25's I'd sell you. They are the 52.7's (2 way). Always have good ratings.

V8_Ranch, thanks for the offer.

Help me out here, the Infinity Kappa 52.7 is at 2 Ohm where the other speakers listed above are at 4 Ohm. How do I get from a signal from this CD-2 to power these? Will it need a seperate amp to use the Infinity's?

Thanks for the help.

My own opinion, try to use the largest round speakers that you can, up to 6.5". Better quality speakers like Infinity or A/D/S sound better with an amp. You don't NEED an amp to run car speakers, but I could see how someone would WANT an amp. Speaker separates make a more pleasing sound than coaxial or triaxials. As I said, just my own $.02 and I'm my no means an expert.

I am not an expert either, and I am not familiar at all with the CD2. Sorry. I believe, as someone else said the infinity's can be head driven, but an amp would certainly add to it. Not really sure about your 2 ohm/ 4 ohm question. Sorry again. Just as a side note, I also have a set of 6.5 infinity Kappas - again 2ways... the 62.7's.

For what help this might be, I replaced the original rear 4x6's and door 5.25's with these in my '87 Carrera this past summer: Polk DB525 Door Speakers from Circuit City for $95.84/pair; Blaupunkt Rear Speakers THx462 from online supplier Mid West for $63.00/pair. All four speakers are "2 way" and do not have a separate amplifier. They are connected to the original Blaupunkt "Charleston" radio. I think they are all 4 ohm. Rear installation was easy. Front door installation required some filing of the internal baffle mounted on the inside of the door panel. If you remove the map/storage pocket, this is an easy DIY. Also note, Polk front speakers can be mounted using the original Porsche grill covers. Rear required use of the grill covers supplied with the new speakers. The tweeter in the rear sticks up too high for the original rear, not the case with the Polk in the front. Also, 2 ohm speakers might be too "light" for your radio's amplifier section. I think you risk blowing the output transistors unless you use at least 4 or 8 ohm.
