Timing Question

1980 3.0 SC

Just tinkering here and decided to check timing at 6K rpm.
We had initially set timing at 5* BTDC while at idle.
Checking it at 6K rpm, we found only 25* BTDC !

Mechanical advance is fully & smoothly functional.
Dizzy has dual vac canister with 2 vac hoses.

We reset timing to 35* at 6K rpm and it verified with 15* at idle.

Had to tweak the mixture slightly and took it out for a spin, it runs smoother and pulls stronger than ever now, even starts quicker.
Idle is very stable at 950-1000.
Previous exhaust popping on decel now almost non-existant

We're wondering if there is any problem with it being at 15* at idle or is everything OK???

Side notes: 02 sensore disconnected, decel valve disconnected.
No pinging even on regular fuel.

I've search many many threads that talk of how to time the motor but still no answer to my question of "will 15* BTDC at idle be OK or will it cause problems?

Surely someone here knows?

As long as you are convinced that 6000 RPM setting is indeed correct I wouldn,t worry about the idle setting as much. It does seem unusually adv. at idle though. When I had a 3.0 original 1980 motor it did,t like to idle well with alot of idle advance.

I poured back through many threads on this last night and come up with so many different settings that guys are using it's almost null to read it all.
30*, 32*, 35*, etc

I need to do a curve of the advance and chart it out then, compare to known chart i guess.

Anyone have the advance curve for a 1980 SC ???

as long as it does not DETONATE and u like the way it runs, all is fine.
too much advance=detonation. u will need to richen it up as u said u did. detonation is an engine killer
