Partial Engine Drop?
What exactly is a partial drop and why or when would you do it vs a full drop?
Hopefully, this is not a stupid question. I've been educating myself here on enging drops in anticipation of a solo myself. As a matter fact, I just picked up a like new Craftsman ATV jack at a local pawn shop for $50.00 today (saw it on ebay for $60.00). Rough area of town but I got out safely! I'm taking Christmas week off and may attempt a drop if I can get clearance at home! Objectives would be: 1) Fix oil leaks (mostly left side top valve cover) 2) Valve adjustment/oil change. 3) Replace leaking tensioner line (left side) 4) Change tranny oil (hard shifting when temps < 40 degrees) 5) Left side outer CV boot replacement (torn)* 6) General cleaning of engine, tranny and engine compartment 7) Might also repaint the tin and muffler while out. *Can I do the CV boot boot replacement only on an 87 3.2 or do I need to replace the entire half axle assembly? Thanks!

I believe most of your list you could accomplish without dropping the motor. However, its not too bad a task. Its a lot easier than you would think.
This is the thread on my first drop. Which has resulted in an ever expanding "while I'm in there list"...... Here goes...1st Engine Drop A partial drop is great to get at the back side (top) of the engine. Good luck.

Is there anything that remains connected in a partial that would otherwise be disconnected to remove the engine. Sounds like a partial is just a lowering to gain access.

I would imagine you would leave a few things connected. I've never done a partial drop. I vaguely remember reading partial drop instructions once... somewhere. I do remember leaving that read with the idea that I would never do it. Something about it just put me off.
Perhaps others who have done a partial will chime in and tell us how wrong I am.

Only thing on your list would be re-painting the tin. I think most of the things on your list would be easier with the engine still attached so you can get leverage. Also remember to take the tranny fill plug out before you take out the drain plug in case you can't get the fill plug out you haven't drained the fluid.
