The RMS (rear main seal) is located behind the flywheel.

I am particularly worried about the AWD system.
The 964 AWD is bullet-proof, it does not break.

I believe there are two sensors on it that cost $1K each and they do go bad.
The PDAS (traction control) uses a transverse and longitudinal accelerometer that also don't break but they do fill up with metal shavings as a consequence of the way they function. This prevents the internal pendulum from swinging so you open the sensor and clean out the shavings and you are good for another 100k miles. Some mechanics are not aware of the cleanout option and will swap out the sensors costing you $800-1500USD.

At 65k miles and 17 years old the premature failure of Freudenburg DMF is a non-issue.

Ryan, did your book deal go through or are you flying again?
paul: worse..got lazy and quit looking for a publisher after the last one just almost went with it. i went back to my first career out of college (ugh) doing research veterinary surgery (animal model) in stroke research at our local medical center. i'd rather lick a dead cat in the ass than show up here every day..

The lack of a dual distributor vent kit is a non issue. Just buy the kit for $15 to $20 and spend a half an hour installing it and you're done.
jay: thanks. that's what i was hoping to hear.

If I bought a pre 92 I would want a good deal on a well maintained car- something under $20k.
I might be able to find that, but it's going to have high miles under 20k. i've found a couple with low miles i could probably pick up in the very low 20's.

Thanks for the clarification!

And not that it matters any more but the LUK flywheel was never installed on the C4 at the Porsche production line (that includes MY94), only the C2 was given the new unit. The MY91-94 C4 received a modified MY90 Freudenberg.
