CV joint interrogation

I am in the process to re-install new CV joints on the drive axle.
My question is : Is the locking circlip goes on the boulder flange or on the other side.

From what I remember I think it only goes on one side. I think it's gets stuck if you try the incorrect side.

I don't think it matters. Things are pretty symetrical. I've noticed this distinction, and I've worried about which way the external groove should go, too. Doesn't seem to matter.

If I cared, I think I'd put the blue dot (in your picture) toward the flange, but that's because of the small relief cut into the splines. That may be there to help get the splines started on the axle splines.

On the other hand, both of these differences may be artifacts of the manufacturing process. No manual I have seen makes a distinction here.

There is a difference in the way they go in. I tried it with the ridge to the outside and could not get it to go on. The ridge side goes toward the axle. Here is a shot of the joint together.

I found some info after some search. The larger section of the transversal portion of the joint must face the boot...Indicated by the green arrow on this pic...

The cage larger flange must face the boot as well as the boulder and the chamfer end of the inner... indicated in green on the following pic...
