Question Motronics: Testing for leaky injectors?

I suspect I have a leaky fuel injector in Cyl # 1.

How do I test/verify whether the injector is in fact leaking?

The plug is sooty and wet and I suspect it's wet from a leaky injector.

The only way I know is to pull the injector rails out far enough to observe for leaks.

Other than that, I would replace the #1 ignition wire and spark plug and see if that takes care of it.

I have the same concern and just this weekend pulled all six and sent them to WitchHunter Performance for flow testing/cleaning. I have been running a little rich and think it may be a leaky injector or two.

If nothing else, their service should give me a good baseline for my 200k+ mile injectors.

Don't know where this leaky injector causing rich condition myth comes from but the usual condition is clogged injectors resulting in a lean condition.

Rich conditions are usually remedied by mixture adjustments on the AFM CO mixture screw etc.

I've got an 85 that was running rich & finally sent all 6 to witch hunter for a cleaning, @ 175000 miles 3 were shot, the pintel tips were worn down & wouldn't seal. replaced all six & life is real good. just tap the key 1st thing in the morning fires right up.

Here's one quick excerpt now:

Leaky Injectors
Wear in the injector orifice and/or accumulated deposits can sometimes prevent the pintle valve inside an injector from seating, allowing fuel to dribble out the nozzle. The extra fuel causes a rich fuel condition, which can foul spark plugs, increase emissions and cause a rough idle. A carbon-fouled spark plug in one cylinder of a multi-port EFI engine usually indicates a leaky injector. If cleaning fails to eliminate the leak (which it can if dirt or varnish are responsible), replacement will be necessary.
