Woo Woo! Engine out

After struggling for quite some time with undoing the hard oil line at the rear of the engine, I finally got that undone over the weekend and I dropped the engine tonight. Now to fix (all?) the pesky oil leaks!

Good job. It really is not that bad of a task - once everything is disconnected... Watch out for the dreaded while-you-are-in-there ...

Watch out for the dreaded while-you-are-in-there ... it seems once it's out and on a stand there's suddenly a LOT of things that you might as well do . my couple of oil leaks has turned into a shortblock and a couple of big pelican orders. hoping to have it running by april 1, maybe. Don.

Good jub, did my first engine pull about 6 months ago.

There seems to be no limit to the amount of money you can spend on these cars we love so dearly.

Oil leaks lead to tearing things aparts, cleaning leads to painting, painting leads to tearing more things apart, tearing things apart require need new orings or gaskets. Since the motor is out I better replace this bearing and that seal, may as well send the injectors off for cleaning since I tore the intake apart to clean and paint, new plug wires would be nice, better get a cap and rotor while I'm at it.

I could go on and on, funny thing is this is just the last two weeks of my full rebuild of my 3.2, it's been going on for months. Compared to the rebuild the above is childs play.

I'm not complaining because its a lot of fun, just funny, wifes not laughing though.

Congratulations! Once you've dropped and reinstalled the engine, you have much better knowledge of the things to look for and oil leak problems. Clean everything up and replace old hoses, clamps, etc... anything that you have a hard time getting to when the engine is installed.

Yeah, I did it solo. I had a real b*tch of a time undoing the hard oil line at the back of the case, ended up having to grind a little notch in it and use an air chisel to get it loosened. There's another thread on here about that somewhere. I used the engine cradle for 3.2L engines that Pelican Parts sells, it definitely helped provide a stable platform when lowering.

From the looks of it, the major oil leak is from the temp sender, but I suppose there are probably more than one. I'll definitely take pictures as I disassemble and update the thread as it progresses.

Good job on the first engine pull Preston. Make sure that you replace the thermostat oring too when you are replacing the oil pressure switch. 999 707 314 40 is the part # for that. Are you going to separate the trans. from the engine? You should if had not already planned to do so. Main shaft seals on the G-50 boxes go bad occasionally. Take a good look at the clutch and flywheel seal too.

Nice work, Preston! I like the look of your tool chests. I'd bet you don't need a LOT of help but if you do just give a yell. Several of us are close and don't mind giving a hand if you need it.
