Steve Wong chip WOW

Just wanted to let everyone know that Loren convinced me.... I just purchased my 911chip from Steve about 10 minutes ago, and can NOT wait to get it installed.

Another one who uses the Pelican website for gathering info and solving
their 911 problems, but buys direct from suppliers. Typical for many
forum users who think the Pelican Parts website has a "zero cost".

And then you have suppliers that promote their product on the Pelican
website, i.e. whether directly or by having their customers make claims by
starting threads, then bypass Pelican Parts by selling directly to the end
customers, e.g. no link to the Pelican website from the supplier's website
to promote Pelican Parts as a distributor.

Both are real losers! But what would you expect from those that use
hyperbole to promote their products? It's just the next step to ripoff
their distributor by taking business direct, i.e. basically the same
loser value system. But most that have been in the Porsche related
businesses for any length of time are aware of these losers. It's only
the naive that get "sucked in".

Loren, do you have a link to Pelican on your website? Maybe they are not a dealer because they are not under the dealer tab on your homepage......... which I got to by clicking on the link on signature line of your Pelican Forum post..........

Loren, when you were (or if you still are) selling your own line of chips, did you market them through Pelican, or did you sell direct to end users? And how did that business venture go for you? You might want to rethink your "loser" comments. Pretty clear who the winner is in the chip business.

Steve is not "having" his customers post positive comments about his product. We're all big boys and can think for ourselves. All of the positive feedback is provided because the customers are very happy with his products.

Your attemt to redirect the discussion from the effectiveness of Steve's chips to how he markets them is pathetic. Your claim that his chip does nothing more than "turning the distributor" is equally pathetic. Your previous claim that his chips would cause engine damage have proven to be baseless.

Give it up man. You're making a fool of yourself.

All I can say is that Steve Wong saved my life, or at least the life of my car. When I got his chip, I went to his place and he spent way too much time with me customizing the chip for my car. Looking under the hood, he saw a bare burned wire from the A/C touching the fuel filter. The wire had apparently burned which explained why my A/C didn't work when I bought the car two weeks earlier. Luckly I hadn't turned on or checked the A/C when I bought it. Yeah, I know stupid buyer who didn't do a PPI, but I didn't even know about Pelican then.

Okay, I've been reading this thread as well as many others on the Steve Wong chip and other then comments from Loren, it sounds great. That being said, what are the downsides to this chip? Will it have an impact on passing emissions inspection (in New Jersey)? Does it push the engine harder, thus causing a rebuild sooner?

I have an 85 911, which is completely stock, with 118k miles. I've only had the car 2 months now and I have noticed the hesitation in the lower gears. If this truly is a wonder-chip, why hasn't Porsche itself updated their chip to incorporate many of the advances proven to work in the Steve Wong chip?

I am considering the purchase of this chip, but I'd like to know all the issues.

The chips did get updated until the end in '89, hence the HP increases of the later Carreras. I passed TX emissions with my first Steve W chip and no cat, so unless NJ is ultra strict, it could & should happen. Come to think of it, California has to be the strictest, and I know many cars have passed there.

Hey everyone!! Reviving thread to thank Steve and Loren… and also hopefully get y’all’s thoughts!

I have an ‘87 911 cab with 100k miles and have taken the last few months to get to know her a bit. I love the car!

Due to Steve’s amazing service and thoughtful responses to me - along with Loren’s silliness (and my desire for more more more!) I’m getting a SW Chip.

I currently have a cat delete (with O2 sensor intact), and am trying to decide on a muffler. I would do new heat exchangers / headers… but the bolts look rusted and I don’t want to risk breaking them until it’s time for a rebuild/displacement increase

As for tone and performance with my setup, what do you all suggest to best compliment the Steve Wong chip? Could you please let me know and tell me why?

I've tried a lot of different muffler (stock, de-baffled stock, Borla, Dansk 84mm Sport, Bisimoto, M&K and some others I've forgotten about) and pre-muffler / cat / declawed cat permutations...



I found a SW chip + Dansk SS pre-muffler + Dansk SS 84mm sport muffler + stock airbox / filter with an open cover to be the easiest, best all around setup for performance and neighbor-friendly street sound. Monty muffler sounds GREAT too, but pricier and harder to source vs. Dansk Sport.

Steve tuned my '88 with the above setup on the dyno. It sounded good before, but it sounded amazing nine pulls later. Hearing the improvement as he tuned it between runs was eye (and ear) opening. 20 hp increase to boot. AMAZING. It was one of the happiest days of my life as I proceeded to drive my relatively new, to me, 911 from LA to Santa Barbara to SF up Hwy 1. Pure magic. :-)

My '89 has B&B long tube headers and a 2 in / 1 out muffler. I replaced a Superchips chip with Steve's off the shelf chip for a 3.2 with headers. Noticeable improvement in smoothness and drivability as well as sound.

It's laughable how much of a no-brainer these mods are.

Nice assortment, Frank. I'm not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but do you have any information about the difference in sound levels between the Monty Muffler, Dansk Sport, and factory muffler? Drone levels? I'm trying to choose between these three.

Well, I don't know of any 1 in / out mufflers that drone (at least none of the ones that I've tried) but I assume someone has managed to screw that one up.

I don't have quantitative measurements of the differences (although I did bust out the decibel meter to A/B test one of the pairs), but qualitatively...

Stock is stock.

Dansk Sport is marginally louder than stock at startup and accelerating through the gears, especially at WOT. It has a deeper, more basso produndo, tone across the board. Still quite neighbor-friendly though. Easy to procure

The Monty is similar to the Dansk, but marginally lower tone still. Hndmade in Australia. Great craftsmanship. More difficult to procure.

On my 1989 it's the 2 in / 1 out matching B&B muffler. I don't believe there are any non-B&B mufflers that bolt up to the B&B headers (with their unique flange spacing at the muffler).

It's a good system. Feels good, plenty of heat, sounds great, especially after to the upgrade to Steve Wong chip.
