I also want to add that after installing the SW chip, my car no longer idle hunts. It use to do this prior to the chip.

Me too.
The DME in my 1985 was a 2k unit. The car was built in October, 1984. Motronic number is: 911.618.111.05 (Bosch: 0 261 200 050) and the chip is: 1267355102. I’m a declared “solderphobe” and did not attempt the conversion to 4k myself. A friend in the high-end stereo repair and installation business helped out with the job – he said it was easy and that it could have been done with “a 20” lawnmower blade and a propane torch”. Steve was also very patient with advice on how to approach the 4k conversion. With Steve’s 84-86 Carrera 3.2 stock chip, the car runs like a new car. The hesitation between about 2000-4500 rpm is just gone. It feels more lively and drivable throughout the range. Steve’s chips and support are excellent. I’m happy, and consider it a very worthwhile upgrade. Paul

![]() (I'll add to this thread instead of starting a new one) Happy Birthday to me! My birthday is this Sunday so I figured it was about time to finally upgrade the chip in my car's DME. Well, I can now say that I am another satisfied customer of Steve Wong. I drove up to Los Angeles from Orange County today to meet him (and his mother) and get the chip from him personally. What a nice guy [Steve, I'm sorry that we didn't have a chance to talk more but obviously both of us were pretty busy]. After I got home, I pulled the old stock chip out and replaced it with the new one he gave me. It was a straightforward install and I was lucky enough to already have the later 4K DME unit so it could not have been easier (someone must have replaced the whole unit in the past). After the installation I started the car and immediately noticed that the engine idled much more smoothly upon cold start than it ever had with the stock chip and held absolutely steady. I hopped in and took the car for a ride and when it was finally up to operating temperature I played around a little with it. I found that the idle was much smoother than before, the power delivery was noticably smoother and more robust through the low and mid range than before with none of the previous breathless feeling the engine had below about 3400 RPM (like it was leaning out a little), the overall power delivery all the way to the new redline felt great! Anyway, thanks again to Steve Wong for a great product (and Steve, nice to meet you). ![]() Last edited by 450knotOffice; 04-06-2007 at 03:45 PM.. |

I need to add my .02 here as well. I received my DMV renewal notice today. A "test only station" was required for the renewal. I was a bit concerned if I would pass or not because of the twin plug set up and a custom chip from SW. I was not worried about the hydrocarbons or the CO% because I had checked it previously and it was okay. What I was worried about was the NOX levels being too high due to the retarded timing for the twin plug set up. Long story short, it passed! The max NOX allowed for the 15mph test are 807 and I passed at 493. For the 25mph test the max allowed is 746 and I passed with 385. I think I could actually bump the CO% up very slightly and the NOX numbers would drop a bit more.
Kudos to you Steve for providing an outstanding product!

"I drove up to Los Angeles from Orange County today to meet him (and his mother) and get the chip from him personally."
Another "Let's bypass Pelican Parts" type of sale! And another one who uses the Pelican web site a lot but obviously feels that the web site is a "zero cost" utility and buys direct. Too much!!!!!! Check out this later thread which indicates an obvious lack of technical credibility and provides some insightful info about DME ECMs: DME Chip Problem

Loren, thanks for the alternator on my 996, but I have to say, next time the Hergesheimers decide to use one of your rebuilds in my car, I'll pass. Others in this business can do what you did. I don't need your insults and you can mind your own business.
(Pelican has gotten a lot of my money over the years, btw) Last edited by 450knotOffice; 04-06-2007 at 10:52 PM.. |

You direct readers to another thread where you got your a$$ handed to you, and where you haven't been man enough to reply to direct, relevent questions. Instead of stalking this thread, how about you go back and answer the questions? You're doing exactly what I said you always do - ignoring anything that doesn't support your own position. "Too much" indeed.

I just got my Steve Wong chip in my Carrera finally today, and I am genuinely shocked at the difference. Not so much a change in power, but the smoothness is incredible.
Loren, You should just give up and crawl back under your rock, nobody here is buying what you're selling, and if anyone is lacking credibility, it is you. I think I speak for everyone here on Pelican when I say you can drop your diatribe!
