I'm kidding of course but I have ALWAYS heard that the Gruppe didn't really want non-Gruppe tagging along or showing up all that much either. If that perception is wrong, wel....SOMETHING is causing it to continue.

I'm going to try to make it, but not if the baby hasn't come yet. And if the baby just came, I wouldn't count on it either. I have a book signing going on at the BimmerFest that Saturday, so I might drive up Sat, and then head down to the BF in Santa Barbara. It would work out perfectly, but I don't know if kid #3 is going to play along and pop out later on this week. -Wayne

Here's how the RGruppe really treats non-members! As if being shunned wasn’t bad enough; they labeled me as a spy and posted their hate propaganda, mocking me in front of the entire Porsche community. IMO, if you haven't shown up to an RGruppe event (invited or not) and personally experienced the reception and ‘attitude’ you’ve received (or perceived), then your opinion is irrelevant at best.

Keith looking forward to having you out. Thanks again for helping me with my car recently. I guess you were taking a break from having an attitude for a moment to do that b/c since your in Rgruppe you must be a jerk based on what I read here. ;-)

Sigh... I WISH I had to worry about being ignored or snubbed or accepted. Fact is I am 3000 miles away, and I CAN'T glam on and check out some neat cars... Sigh....

Jake, I'm only a 100 miles away. I could ignore you from here if you like. That is after I get your input on taking my car down to metal.

if they were concourse-averse, i would think minilites, 7r's, deep 6's, and early sport seats would come down from their stratospheric prices... but i do have to say, a lot of the gruppe's cars are bad-ass as hell... would love to ride 'em hard for a session or two

Yea, I *do* love some of those R-Grppe cars...they all seem to be a bit evil... I will say this though, if Dave (of TRE) invited me to drive up with him, I'd drag my shaggy ole 911 up to TRE pretty darn quick, and enjoy a great ride with some interesting machines. And if I could go kick some tires at the gathering, all the better. I'm really not going to lose sleep over my car not being "in" the club...I just like driving and tracking it... But since I'm 3K miles away, I can only druel! But hey, thats just me!

Maybe it's me. but I think Dave answers who is welcome to join his ride in the fourth post. Personally all this other stuff belongs in another thread. I wish you were leaving on friday. I would be all over that. Your riding thru my back yard.

I'm looking forward to both the drive down and meeting the California crowd. This will be my first Treffen, having missed out due to work commitments in the past. Three days on the road on the way down with the PacWest chapter is just going to be a hoot. Then a couple of days in town with the rest of the guys, meeting up with the 356 Registry; it just doesn't get any better than that. One week and counting...

I've attended a few r-gruppe drives / events. In every case, I've been treated as a friend and fellow enthusiast, even by those folks who had never met me before. From what I've seen, the politics and BS is on the outside, not on the inside of the gruppe. I'm not a member, nor am I aware of how that happens. At this stage, I've turned down many more invitations than I've actually been able to take part in. I am in awe of some of the cars and think the hotrod 911 concept is extremely cool. I have not nor will I meet everyone, but from what I've experienced.....Great cars & great folks. If you are feeling left out, start another group and do it your way.

"Concours-averse bunch"!? . .. R!? ... c'mon. I'll admit R-guys aren't presevationist, but as one long-time R said "it's become an RS wannabe yacht club." I've got to agree. Gruppe-B; they're the ones with dirt under their fingernails, bastardizing their cars in a very non-conformist (usually frugal) way. R-grope is about dumping money into 'the project' until proper one-upmanship is afloat. ...of course there are guys like Tyson, Dave... who are invited in because; hey, even captains need a crew now and then.
