Location of the sway bar on the 1967 911S
JP, here is the welded pin on the factory SWB rear banana arm. Same location.
![]() Speedo, take a look at turning the sway bar upside down and shortening the drop link to get a tighter fit - less droop under the car? Will that work? Bob |

Weltmeister adapter
Duckworth,
I need to preface this response...I consider Weltmeister products to be generally good. If I were going to track the car, I would have used something more substancial...Something our host offers...Tarett, Elephant Racing, Smart Racing etc. As this will be a driver, and I had them on the shelf...I used what I could "reach" that would work. Any of the names I mentioned would need some form of "adaptation " to make their systems work. I do not currently know of a manufacturer that addresses this issue. (If I am wrong...humble appologies). I contacted Weltmeister (owned by Performance Products) and explained my problem. The gentleman I spoke with advised that they did have the product already designed for my needs...item 901988. http://www.***************/product.asp?pf_id=P901988&dept_id=5042 When I looked it up on their website, I realized that this "adapter" was for cars without the factory mounting plates that wanted to run sway bars. I explained this to the guy, and he assured me that this part was what I needed. I emphsized that I had the factory mounts for the sway bar already mounted on the car, and needed some adapter to mount the links. He got frustrated with me and told me that this was the adapter I needed. Ok, I'm wrong. I hung up and called back again asking to speak to a technical person about product. Really nice guy got on the line...understood my problem, appologized for the other inividual not understanding, put me on hold for a minute and when he came back to the line, he directed me to this http://www.***************/product.asp?pf_id=P901988&dept_id=5042 Needless to say, apparently Weltmeister already has a handle on the problem, and has taken the necessary steps to provide a remedy ![]() Last edited by speedo; 02-08-2009 at 11:07 AM.. |

This is a horrible design!
The clamps rides very low on a lowerd car and can snag going over bump, maybe less of a problem on a SWB. If I had known what I know now I would have saved my money a little while longer a got a good quality part. Would have saved me 2 ripped swaybar mounts... ![]()

Hmmm
You may be right...

The sway bar I have is the same as yours and has not been a problem on my car and it is lowered just about as far as you can go, i have had it installed for 16 years

Worked fine for me too until the day I drove in to my garage with the track tires on, which make the car slightly lower, and they caught on the 2 inch step...

way behind on posts...
Yeah, the world seems to have gotten in the way. I can't figure out why...with the economy in such a state...a lot of the "stuff" that I have ordered (door handle gaskets, interior door panels etc) the wrong parts get shipped. Not once but two or three times?? So simple things like re-assembling the doors completely...get pushed back again and again because of the wrong parts. It almost seems like people have lost focus. So much for the op-ed on the state of the world. I will update this weekend the progress, but the correct door handle gaskets arrived for the fourth time
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The wheels on the rear of the car as seen in the background are deep sixes ![]() They are not filling out the wheel well sufficiently, so I sent a pair of 15x7s out to Al Reed to get refinished to match the sixes. I realize I am a slacker and should just buy a set of 7Rs to match the deep sixes....but the P account can't afford the 7Rs right now. The wheels should be back in a week and we'll swap the 205 50s onto the 7s and see what the spacing in the wheel well looks like. I was going to have some repro seats put together...but in the process of looking for a nice set of early headrests for said seats...I found some head rests connected to a really nice set of early standard recaros. So for the time being...those seats will be installed in the car. If I find someone needing a really nice pair of stock seats with tilting headrests...these may be fodder for some repros ![]() ![]() Updates this weekend...fenders and front bumpers get attached. I can't wait to roll the car outside the shop and wash it. Weird weather for Colorado this time of year...scary in fact...a week and a half of 75 degrees. Speedo |

You are making great progress. btw, I would add a larger fender washer to your lower shock mount. I had a set of Bilsteins pull the bushing last year. the large washer prevented it from coming all the way off.

r car
Here is the door handle rendering from my r interpretation.
They are made from '69 vintage handles Time will tell if they are too weak but this was cheaper and I hope "cooler" than the repro plastic ones. ( and i can lock them ![]() ![]() ![]() I love your car its a real inspiration to me over here in blighty. I've also suffered with hold ups but usually due to my own impulsive direction changes. andy |

I won't spend much time...
My door stops were worn and broken...
![]() Before I realized the replacement part was cheap...I welded up the missing steel ![]() ![]() Fit and painted it ![]() reassembled...now I find out they are $25 to replace...oh well ![]() I was reinstalling the window regulators and found (posted in a different thread) that the crank receiver was broken. ![]() I pulled out a 71 regulator and compared them ![]() I checked the mounting holes on the doors... the SWB regulators have a very close bolt space pattern ![]() The later regulators have a wider spaced pattern ![]() I love these cars...while the holes were there for the SWB regulators, the 71 regulator had holes that were also drilled ...so they bolted right up. Someone had asked me for pics. I will send them if they email me...but the later regulators were already planned for...in the earlier doors. |

Front fenders
I don't like installing the front fenders. Regardless of the effort involved in pre-fitting the fenders, after painting all bets are off. With the doors installed...I moved to the fenders. Needless to say, they took a half day to install to get the gaps correct. I was halfway through when a couple of local wankers arrived and tried to both criticize and tempt me with hops...I resisted...for a while. Here we are...closer

Weight savings seems to be paramount on this project. You have gone great limits to reduce weight by drilling out the door handles, hinges, smugglers lid etc, glass fenders, --so explain to me again why you intend to use steel lug nuts instead of the lightweight OEM alloy ones. A local wanker and fermented beverage peddler wants you to share your reasoning ...
