Lars,

Absolutely take Frank up on his offer.

"How to build a 911 from scratch." would be a bestseller.

Best,
Grady

I too would buy a couple of editions... 1 for the shop and 1 to keep on the shelf w/o grease and crap all over it as the shop one would become aiding my resto project.

Knowing Lars, he's probably made money on it. (His hours notwithstanding)

rear end attention

The rear bumper was fit prior to painting and requires a small effort in fitment, then to be bolted up
I had the remove the tailights to get decent access for mounting the bumper
I mounted it temporarily...and ran tape around the outline of the rear lower quarter.
I then remove the bumper and use the outline of the tape to run my rubber seam...finished product

sits nicely and keeps the steel from chewing up the fiberglass bumper
completed...bumpers done, on to the exhaust

Muffler time

I did a search and found that the R muffler outlets were 2 3/4" od vs the 2" "pea shooter sport exhaust outlets. Based on how the inlets line up with the outlets underneath the rear bumperettes...it becomes basically a straight pipe. This will be a street car, and straight pipes will be too loud. I'll need to do some mods to the inside of the muffler to avoid and remedy the straight pipe issue. I mount the muffler and mark for the outlets

I don't have the 2 3/4 pipe, but I have 2 and 3 inch...here is the look for comparison

...the 3 inch seems enormous
This has got to go
With al do respect for the purists...I am not a fan of the 2 in 3 out option where you cap off the two R outlets for the street, and cap off the oem street outlet and uncap the sport outlets for the track. Just looks like one too many appendages.
Bye bye

git'r done...

I bought 2 1/2 steel pipe, and 3 inch (local muffler shops don't carry 2 3/4) and I decided that after looking at the 3 inch which I was going to split and reweld back to 2 3/4...that the 2 1/2 was going to be just fine. As the original R muffler didn't have the left side outlet sawed off and welded over...it had the same continuous seam around that end of the exhaust...I decided to retrofit the same thing. I want this end
To look like this end
I started with this
to this...rough to start
I needed to section in slightly to get it to conform to the curve of the end of the muffler
Welded up...this will clean up nicely
The seam will be just like the other end...and not just "capped off"

Show time...

I decided that the 2 1/2" outlets were big enough...holes first. Pullled out my jigs for modifying the muffler
Mounted up, this will allow me to secure the muffler and get proper alignment to weld up the outlets
I'll drill the holes
You will notice that the end of the muffler has a "cavity" at the ends

These need to be perforated , so I pulled out the cutting torch and went to work
other side
I needed to fit the 2 1/2 inch outlets

And done...

Tacked up
Check the alignment and weld.
Looks good...now the litmus test

Tailights go back in, grill gets mounted to deck lid tomorrow.

I'll pull the muffler and get it Jethot coated.

You are going to put a heat shield between the muffler and the rear bumper right? Perhaps reflective asbestos matting. Hate to see that pretty paint get scorched by close proximity to your muffler. YMMV

Can You just do that to the muffler.....? How does this affect the performance?
Will it boost HP like the sport mufflers?

The detail work you do is awesome.....truly an inspiration for us out there.

Who on earth would continue the seam around the muffler......
