The wheels are Macafee's (spelling) they were sold by performance years ago I believe. If you want to sell the 912 motor let me know I have a buyer.

I am accumulating parts...

The engine parts are coming back from the machine shops. Valve job is done,, the peripheral pieces are coming back from the platers, the SC reprofiled cams are being returned from Dougherty, and I have given the shop with the case 1 week to bore and time sert. I got the oil cooler back from Pacific. All my engine tin and interior parts are powder coated...With a hardware kit and some gaskets , I am ready to assemble. The car is curing at the painters...and as I look at the dark blue R car being put up for sale via the Early S registry...I am glad that I went cobalt blue.
I keep finishing peripheral parts getting ready

Not locked or banned ...yet

The car is at the painter still...he took a week break and went somewhere to spend my money. The paint is curing and on his return, he will polish and I will make a couple trips to point out things he needs to fix...drips and runs. He gets pissed, but he does a good job in the end...seems like this funny ritual we go through. I spent this morning cleaning the electrical and fuel related functions of this
I know nothing about these 912 engines. Just approached it like a 911...yanked the plugs and cleaned them, checked the tank and fuel , carbs were nasty, so I pulled the air cleaners off and loosened them up. Cleaned and tightened all the electrical connections. Fresh battery, and a little ether...fired right up and idled well after burning off the requisite oil. I actually drove it down the road to clear it out a little, then parked it, disconnected the battery and covered it. Amazing, that this thing hasn't run in many years, yet it jumped back to life. After Axel is completed, this will be the next project. Jury is out...another clone, or just a nice stock 912. I'm thinking of a Gary Emory influenced 912 something. I need to learn about "hot" 912 engines.I'm going underground for a week....long enough to let the shops that have machining to do...get it done. I also have the engine rebuild parts coming back...oil cooler, cams and a very slick 10k tach.

going back a page or two - i saw you mention you were looking for an oven to bake/bend your rear plastic screen.

i put a (flat) lexan rear screen (and rear windows) in my 69E a year ago using only the stock mouldings and they fit and look fine. the lexan takes on the slightly curved shape of the glass due to the curve in the upper and lower channels. no heating/baking required in my opinion.

Hello Lars,
I guess things could be worse than accidentally buying a restorable LWB 912. Let me know when you start researching hot rod 912's. I'll give you some ideas. Also check out the "4 cam" thread in the 356 tech forum. That will give you some really expensive ideas.

If your daughter is dead set on a SWB racecar come by some time and look at my '66 912. I don't care either way. I'd trade you my '66 for your '68. Mine needs similar work to yours.

And as others have said, we want pictures of paint already.

Lol, stop bashing 912s guys... my first Porsche was a '67 912, they're awesome. Seriously though, this project is amazing Lars... you're making me feel bad, I'm about to do a '67 912 into a bit of a hot rod, but I'm not sure I have the patience to go into the details you have. I can't wait to see it when you're done with this car!

That's Linden's 67S with RSR frosted finish deep 6s and 7R wheels at R Gruppe Treffen in Cambria. Are we sure about the Gulf Blue?

Hi Bob, I am pretty sure Eric referred to his car as being the older, darker version of Gulf blue. I guess this comes from a time before Gulf became associated with Porsche and their light blue/orange racing colours became famous. It would be interesting to find out when the Gulf racing colours first appeared on a Porsche, anyone?.....

I believe early 70s. I have seen many a short wheelbase painted the Gulf colors though.
