Question Installing 993 heat exchangers

Curious, once the flanges on a 993 heat exchanger is clocked to fit the earlier motors, is a special tool required to access the nuts to install them?

Is such a tool available off the shelf, or is a custom solution needed?

It's a pain in the a$$. I cut an offset box wrench, tried a socket on a magnet, yelled at it, etc. This combination eventually got me there...although the yelling didn't seem to do much.

Here is a pic of the 993tt HEs stock and clocked. You can see that one side is now not aligned with the access holes.

Hmmm... looks like it'll be a major PITA and I'm going to have to install these with the motor still in the car as I don't have a garage ready yet

Can anyone here make me this wrench? My fabrication facility is quite limited

dont have the wrench but have a jig to clock the 993 heat exchangers

Don't be discouraged. It's not impossible, just one of those things that requires ALOT of patience. The design of the Snapon wrench that Tyson used in the post klauke linked to is available from numerous manufacturers.

Thanks - what's that type of Snapon tool actually called? Is there a special name for it? I just want to know what I'm asking for when I call around

Flex-head with open end maybe?
