dearest secret agent kcpaz, the modus operendi for getting yer "blaphemous kamikaze rice saki bomber from hell" registered is this. must be performed in exact order:
1) go to insurance agent. get letterhead(name of ins. co.) document that your saki bomber is a "limited use" "collectible" vehicle. he will write XYZ insurance company is insuring your saki bomber as a "collectible" limited use" vehicle. those prior words in italics are necessary for some of the pea brains you may meet at AZMVD. vehicle must be 20 years or older. PERIOD! bring documentation to that effect. obviously VIN must jive as far as what year it is 911 car. 2) go to AZMVD. take a number........"now serving # 678" and yer #679! enjoy the sights while you wait. 3) tell AZMVD that you want to register your vehicle as a " limited use" collectible car. i think max mileage is 3000 a year dont quote me. 4) pay AZMVD. GRAB REGISTRATION............AND RUN! go home and take cataclyzmic convertor off/smog pump/and anything else assoc. and throw into corner. save it for when you sell vehicle. 5) enjoy no more emissions bull crap. 6) enjoy spending less a year on vehicle registrations. 7)enjoy romping the hell out of the super secret kamikazi saki bomber! limited use and collectible is yer MANTRA to insurance company and to AZMVD! |

Thanks Chuck!!! I just got back from an emissions test and it FAILED. It didn't fail because it wasn't "green" enough. Actually, the thing burned AMAZINGLY clean... even without a catalytic converter. The numbers were as follows...
LOAD TEST: Hydrocarbons (HC) in PPM Loaded reading was 190 Loaded standard was 250 PASSED Carbon Monoxide (CO) in % Loaded reading was .65 Loaded standard was 1.50 PASSED IDLE TEST: Hydrocarbons (HC) in PPM Idle reading was 84 Idle standard was 250 PASSED Carbon Monoxide (CO) in % Idle reading was .38 Idle standard was 2.0 PASSED So it burns clean enough, but they failed it on the visual inspection. Air System (air pump): FAILED Catalytic Converter: FAILED Evaporative System: FAILED Gas cap test: PASSED PCV System: Passed (which is funny because it's not even properly hooked up) So there's no way I'm going to try and rig up some kind of air pump, and I think it's stupid that they are going to fail me on the catalytic converter even though it's well under the standard limit. So I'm going to stick it to the man and register it as limited ![]() BTW, I also shot some video on my way back. I just need to figure out the software that came with my new camera (THANKS SANTA) so I can upload it. |

outstanding secret agent kcpaz!
enjoy the fruits of yer labor minus the nightmare of ADEQ. we are no different than kalif. as far as smog. actually WORSE THAN KALIF. because AZ. fails federal smog standards due to dust particulates in the air. dust is everywhere and always will be. but since your not using it as a daily driver with the exception of driving by a certain individuals house waving a japanese flag every night .........you wont be adding to the smog problem we have, and you can now have some fun. cant wait to get my SSI's and dual in/dual out on. wanna install them for me at yer leisure?( i have no time and dont see any in future due to work) i'll get em shipped from pelican and you can slap 'em on when you got time. put some bucks in yer pocket for an EVEN BIGGER JAPANESE FLAG! cant wait to see this beast in person! don davis is on his way over right now to view"the collection".(3.2) 1970 911 silver guy. |

okay here it is...
I now have about 100 miles logged on the conversion with no problems other than the fact that the ADEQ won't let me pass emissions. The engine really pulls strong from the bottom end. I've been in a 3.6 converted SC and it seems to have similar power, just in different places. It would be interesting to see dyno results and compare the two. All I have to do now is paint the bumpers and tail. |

Well I want to thank everyone for their support and kind words throughout the entire project. After today, I feel like I can officially consider this project a success. I'm sure I will continue to fine tune the set-up, but for now, it's everything I thought it would be and more. I can't wait to get it on the track

Awesome!
Anybody used this engine in a boxster or 996? Could be a way to salvage some newer rides without going broke on mods. Could be the answer for my Asian 906 or RSK type beachbum car. Diverdan |

remember showroom stock holds my balls to the fire "as it was on showroom floor" pca allows straight pipes, but i think that would be just bothersome to all. so tell me which exhaust and i will place order w/pelican. |

I've been following this thread for a while. At first I thought I was looking at the work of regular guy with exceptional fabrication skills. Then he built a wiring harness and I became suspicious. This project is otherworldly. Dark, mysterious...evil. I'm no purist. I committed Porsche heresy when I helped produce cast Fuchs replicas in the Philippines. (Shhhh. Don't tell.)
![]() ![]() ![]() My '83 has a 3.6 varioram in it. Just yesterday I changed my exhaust. I have the same Magnaflow muffler you are running. It's amazing how similar our cars sound. So basically here's what you've done; You've replaced an older flat-6 with a newer one and switched to water cooling. It's affordable, lightweight and reliable. And the BIG issue is that this platform can take on huge and relatively inexpensive power upgrades. To my ear the thing just sounds great. If a reasonably priced kit were available I have no doubt you'll do well with it.

Kcpaz,
I just stumbled on this thread this morning so I got to go from first pics to the sound of your car on the road...quite a ride, literally and figuratively ![]() Besides your fab skills, you write very well and make complicated issues simple to understand. I second an earlier poster who mentioned you should do an article...again, well done, young man.

No insurance problems here. They don't care, and to be honest, if I hadn't told my insurance agent that I did an engine conversion (he's a friend of my wife's family) he would probably never know. It was funny to see the techs at the emissions station look at the engine and scratch their heads trying to look for the air pump and charcoal conister. They probably opened the book and started looking for the alternator fan. It took 4 different techs to fail me ![]() Quote:

I had thought about contacting Excellence about maybe doing an atricle, but I wonder if the last article they did about a Subaru powered Porsche left a bad taste in their mouths. I wouldn't even know how to contact them about it. |

uber secret agent kcpaz, had so damn much fun the other day w/you, lex luther,tim?-black turbo/uncle billy ............i had to go fer a run again. leisurely ride to prescott w/girl friend, back to prescott valley to casa cardenas. melt in yer mouth rellenos mmmm good. leisurely ride back to cave creek(home of the cave) and all of a sudden....................
a 350zx saki bomber wanted to show me the twisties............. and the next thing ya know..............theres a 350zx "KILL STICKER" on my fuselage! ate him alive not once.......not twice.........but three times! at light he asked ........."what ya got in that thang?" and i replied.......PCA SHOWROOM STOCK! his window rolled up without a word said! hahahahahahahaha i will check pelican next for the 2 in 2 out. i can save freight on that and i know GHL well. was just wondering what you were seeing mostly GHL-M&K-DANSK. im just looking for every pony possible per buck. sound is secondary. nobody checked my decibels at firebird/pir/or calif. mtr. speedway, nor even cave creek cops have chased me about decibels. they just chase harleys loud piping thru town. when ya get a chance and its road worthy, bartlett lake is close and has some fun twisties and nice long straights to play on. give a shout. 602 558-1987 |

kcpaz,
I registered just to give you some props on this build. I'm a Suby guy, and this is the first time I've seen an SVX powered Porsche. I read through the whole thread, and I'm really really impressed. I'm chiming in that your workmanship is absolutely top-notch. I'm willing to bet that SubieSport magazine would be interested in your build. Their contact info is here. http://mag.subiesport.com/index.php?option=com_contact&catid=12&Itemid=54 Again, props! |
