Where can I get a torque wrench calibrated?
I found this old thread (2002) which has useful information about torque wrenches.
Recomendations for Torque Wrench WTB Where does one get their old torque wrench recalibrated? I'm assuming an non-FAA certified place will be cheaper, but what kind of place does this sort of thing? How much can I expect to pay? I have a click style 3/8" Craftsman ($80 15 years old) and a new inch pound ($40 made in China - click style) so I could do 6 lb valve cover nuts (6 x 12 = 72). I'm in the Detroit/Ann Arbor, Michigan area.

I asked a mechanic at my local small airport (Olympia, Washington) where he takes his for testing. I went to that place, and the guy just tested my three wrenches for free. Had they been out of whack, recalibration is done somewhere else. All he did was test and certify the results. I needed no certification, but just wanted to see if they were in spec. All three were. All three were Chinese-made Harbor Freight units.

My mechanic has a Snap-on torque gauge at his shop. I just took mine down and tested it on his gauge.

Just put the rotating end on a vice grip and hang 50 or what ever weight 1 foot away from the end. That'll tell you how far off the wrench is. I use a 50 wieght at exactly one foot away from the end and mine was off about a 1/4 pound. Then again i have a electronic tourqe wrench. =)

We use a place called Angle Repair, I can find the number if you can't. Usually, the off shore wrenches are not worth the $45 fee to get them recalibrated. I could sell you a new one for $35.
