help, power but no start?

I pulled my 79 sc out of the garage. Put my key in turned, nothing turned again nothing then the third time it started no problem. I figured that the battery was low, went for a five mile drive, pulled into the wash bay at the shop. After sitting for a few hours I tried to go home, I turn the key and nothing happens. It does not try to crank or evn click. I have power to everything but doesn't see to have any to the starter. What is my firt move?

Check the condition of all your earth straps would be a good start.

Ground cable, Earth strap...same thing. There will be a number of them....not sure on a 79 but there should be one from the starter motor to the chassis and of course negative side of battery to chasis. But there are others. Sounds to be like a bad earth connection.

Try recharging the battery. A 5 mi run won't bring the charge up very much.

It could also be your starter/solenoid.

Or your ignition switch.

Alright I think that I have found the problem, solenoid on the started is bad. The only way I can start it is by jumping across the solenoid to the starter. Can you buy just the solenoid or will I have to replace the whole starter assembly? If so where can I find one? Thanks Adam

Although now that I think about it I guess it could also be the electronic part of the ignition switch as well. Still wonder about a solenoid replacement.

That's what I did and I got my solenoid at my local independent Porsche repair shop.

I think it cost about $75.00.
