List of original factory colors ('74)?

Anyone have a list of all the original colors that were offered from the factory? I know my car was originally kind of a turquoise blue color (possibly gulf blue, but not sure, looks a little darker I think) and I'd like to return it to that color as part of my restoration (it's much more of a classic look, IMO). I think my local paint store has a book with all the chips in it, but it'd be nice to have an idea of which one it is before going down there. Thanks.

Jeff--
From the Red Book, the only blue that was a standard color in '74 was Mexico Blue, Color Code 336

Special order blues:

Gulf Blue 328
Metallic Blue 334
Gemini Blue 335
Bahama Blue 354

Not sure where the paint code is located on a '74; on my '85 there is a paint code emblem attached to the right side of the front trunk. It is under the carpet near the hinge.

Try paintscratch dot com. They have color samples for at least the standard colors.

Check for a metal plaque on the drivers' side front door jamb, by where the catch arm attaches. I think that's where it is on a '74.

Thanks guys. I found the metal emblem in the front trunk area, but it just gives the year & serial #, I didn't see a paint code (I'll check again). I'll check the door jamb too. Maybe it's one of those other blues, I'll check.

It's a shame to get rid of the black in a way, but the dumbass who sprayed it painted over stuff like rear window seals and so forth, so the paint's going to get screwed up anyway the more I rip into it and try to fix all his dumb mistakes. Figure it's an opportunity to restore it to its former blue glory.

Paintscratch only lists one color unfortunately. I found this early car on early911s.com, I think this is the color - looks pretty close:

Glacier blue? Go here and check the '72-73 colors. It will be Glasurblau on the web site:

Glacier Blue looks awfully close to the color in part of the engine bay and under the carpets. I'm still looking for the paint code. That is one VERY nice color in any case - hopefully it was made in '74!

When you know the name of the color then try the following link for the original formula...

According to glasurit (original paint for Porsche) in the 55 line you have the following blues

BLAU MET
GEMINI MET
GULFBLAU
LAPIS BLAU MET
MEXICO BLAU
TUERKIS

You could look at the formula of each and have your paint guy make u a small sample ($5 per can I think) and then see which one matches.

Good luck

Mexico blue also looks pretty close (and it'd be pretty appropriate for a southern CA car these days, no?)

Here's the list of what I was able to find (source is a 1974 Porsche/Audi dealer's reference handbook I bought off of ebay):

Porsche 911, 911S, Carrera - 1974 models

Standard Paint Colors & Codes:

Coupe: Targa: Color:
B6B6 B6V9 Light Yellow
D3D3 D3V9 Desert Beige
E7E7 E7V9 Orange
G8G8 G8V9 India Red
H1H1 H1V9 Peru Red**
K5K5 K5V9 Mexico Blue (this is a possibility)
N8N8 N8V9 Lime Green
R4R4 R4V9 Grand Prix White
T3T3 T3V9 Chocolate Brown**

Special Paint Colors (extra cost):

A1A1 A1V9 Black**
E2E2 E2V9 Signal Orange
G6G6 G6V9 Aubergine**
H2H2 H2V9 Magenta
J9J9 J9V9 Gulf Blue (also a possibilty)
K3K3 K3V9 Lilac
K7K7 K7V9 Bahama Blue** (not sure what this one looks like, but I'll check)
M1M1 M1V9 Jade Green
M3M3 M3V9 Irish Green**
N3N3 N3V9 Olive
N4N4 N4V9 Raspberry
N9N9 N9V9 Birch Green
W5W5 W5V9 Salmon Metallic*
X1X1 X1V9 Blue Metallic* (nope, mine's not metallic, nice color though)
X3X3 X3V9 Gemini Blue Metallic*
Y8Y8 Y8V9 Ice Green Metallic*
Y9Y9 Y9V9 Emerald Green Metallic*
Z2Z2 Z2V9 Silver Metallic*
Z6Z6 Z6V9 Copper Brown Metallic*
Z7Z7 Z7V9 Gazelle Metallic*
9999 9999 Paint to Sample (possible, but not likely)

* Metallic Colors not available on Carrera.
** Option No. 427 mandatory on Carrera

Hmmm. I'm starting to think maybe it's Mexico Blue after all. Very cool. I didn't get a chance to dig around for the paint code last night but I'll look tonight. If I don't find it, I'll post some pics of the area under the seats/carpets so you guys can see.

Mexico Blue is one SEXY color - I'm hoping that's what it was originally!

I sort of like this to show the colors even though they are 914s.
