Dash Bracket... What is this?

Hello!

I saw this on a vehicle posted by Victory on eBay. No interest in the car, but I am interested in the dash bracket thingy in the photo. Take a look... Its look pretty clean, in that it might reduce the ripples/bends of an aged dash. Is this OE equipment? Where might I learn more?

Thanks again as always.

Tom

He's probably asking about the reinforcement that runs the length of the dashpad at the bottom of the windshield. It Looks like it covers the defrost vents too. (If I'm looking at the correct item)
I wonder if that pad has been recovered? Someone with a better eye might tell if the grain is correct or not.

kmhemi - You got it! That is EXACTLY what I am referring to. It looks like it blocks the vents and buttons down the dash a bit. My '78 has vents and this bar/cover seems to cover that up. Living in Hawaii the vents are not a real necessity... But my dash is lifting a little in those areas; I was thinking that this bar/cover my tighten it up ... Looks clean!

Anyhoo...

It does rain in Hawaii though, doesn't it?

I imagine not having defrost air would be a bit of a negative in that regard.

Looks like a 964/993 dash (which is two pieces) in a Carrera.

I have an 89 Carrera 3.2 and my dash looks the same (exept leather covered). The 'bracket thingy' contains the defrost vents. As far as I know it was standard on later Carrera 3.2s with the larger aircon vents.
