It sort of looks like a capacitor of some sort.

Probably an ignition-noise suppressor for the radio.

The reason I am asking is that I need a red wire to attach to my wiper motor (relevant thread). I'm wondering if I run a wire from this capacitor lead it would be OK.

If I'm not mistaken there's a signal-noise suppressor for the radio already installed in 911s in the rear (engine bay) electrical compartment.
Possible a P.O. installed another?
