Then I would like to have the engine (still kept NA) beefed up... and with a classic look (6 nice trumpets, carburetors or fuel injected, but with the carburetors look) |
No go is a relative term. I'm sure it will be more than fun when you get it done. But the old Horsepower-itis will kick in at some point.

Rear tires in place... saving up for front tires...

OK, wheels and tires installed. Now for the fun part: Body work!
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02122_medium.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02120_medium.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02123_medium.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02126_medium.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02119_medium.jpg I also need to decide on the color. Initially I was going to paint it the same color the car has now with black Carrera script... but lately I have been thinking about 997GT3 RS Orange with black Carrera script... |
Looking good!!!
I will get back to you about the center caps shortly.... |
Ya gotta love the look of RSR fenders...
|
Looks great! Congrats!
|
Absolutely wonderful...the look of such gargantuan rear tires is the stuff of legends! You will be able to grip the world :)
BTW what is the actual width of the tire shoulder to shoulder in inches? |
Quote:
As far ast he color, going with Continental Orange. So it will look similar to this one: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1215786888.jpg Orange photos for 1974 RSR 3.0 Project Since I also got a sample of the 997 GT3RS Orange.... So it does not go to waste... I plan to take the rear spoiler, prep it, paint it Continental Orange, use the 997GT3 RS orange and paint a stripe in the middle... just to see how that looks. I will do this as a test... final paint job I will leave to the professionals. |
I hope you're ready for that kind of attention! Its going to look absolutely breath taking in that shade. The Jeger cars were always my favorite.
|
Nice job with the tires...I tried to get 335/35/17 here in Aus but were not available so settled for 315/35/17 Sumi's, not sure I would have got away with 335's anyway under the standard turbo look rear guards. Will your rear wheels need spacers at all to fill in the gap or is it an optical illusion?

I do take it out like that around the block just to keep the engine without issues... can't wait to start working on it again... Thank you for asking. It will be a several years project as I can only do it in the few free hours per week or month I get. |
I've just read both chapters of this project and have to say its brilliant. Are there any major updates as I noticed the last post is October. You may also be able to answer a question thats bugging me, how come you can get the rear flares in 13", 14" and 15" does this relate to evolutions in period or just different manufacturers takes on the original?
Good luck with the build Darren |
Well, a quick update, after some soul searching I have decided to give it to a pro to finish the body work and paint... that way I have a chance to use the car before I am 80 years old :D
Also, decided to go with Recaro Pole Position for the seats. I tried one yesterday and my butt fits. |
Any update!
Wonder how the project is going. ;) |

I agree any updates, Kevin

Hi, cracking job there mate....
I have been involved with similar jobs as your doing, but we have always worked with steel, but are thinking of giving the fibre glass alternatives a try. I have one question if you dont mind helping - the steel transfer is more or less the same as you are doing but what, or more like how, are you going to mate the door outer edge with the fender flare where it abuts to the door - as the fibre glass is on top of the original wing. It's no problem with the steel as we cut off the outer fender over the door jam so the new fender is level with the original door. Very interested in understanding how you eventually did this. That is going to be one awsome looker - well done. Regards Jammo.;) |

Well... decided to work it a little bit more before it goes to the shop... a lot of friends are just telling me to take a stab at it....
Finally getting a chance to resume work on this project... Removed the rear qtr panels and bumper to start working on it again... http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02790sm.jpg Pressured washed the whole area: http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02785sm.jpg Might be a good time to remove the oil tank and detailed it... clean it, paint it, etc... hummm... now the "while you are in there" sub project start to show up... http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02786sm.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02789sm.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02791sm.jpg The previous owner, since he had the car close to stock, covered the second exhaust side. I will remove that cover and weld a small 3" pipe to then install the small radius elbow and get the dual exhaust finished. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02787sm.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02788sm.jpg A few more baby steps... Cut bolts and drilled holes on the stock bumper support. Made a metal piece with two bolts welded to it to glue to bumper with epoxy. This will allow me to remove the bumper with ease... http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc02788smmod.jpg Also finished modifying the muffler with the dual exhaust. Still need to cut just a little bit more to have the tailpipes closer to the middle of the cut outs in the bumper. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc_0001_copy2.jpg With the bumper now centered and held in place by bolts in the shocks, and the braces from the side, I can now work on aligning the quarter panels. |

Also, i'm sruggling to find rubber seals to go between the rear lights and bumper/qtr and the same for the front...have you sourced any? Many Thanks, |

the widebody look is really nice.
is this for a streetcar or racecar project? I'm guessing a streetcar with no cage, street tires, and a reclining seat? this car would be cool to race, assuming the mechanicals were on par with the cosmetics. :) |

Finally some progress... Thanks to a friend that took on finishing the project... now is a joint effort and moving a heck of a lot faster. Inner duct (sorry for the small photos...) http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1034.jpg Building a lip and reinforced mounting points http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1035.jpg Let's glue this puppy! http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1041_small.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1042_small.jpg Passenger Qtr Panel now in place. Bumper also attached (not sure if you can see the screws on the bumper. Those are to hold the inside bracket while it dries. Bumper can be removed easily and it is resting on the stock bumper shocks. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/ds...dium_copy4.jpg Rear wing blasted, glued, and ready to be primed... http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/ds...dium_copy1.jpg Moving to the front... that mount looks sooooo much better than my first attempt... http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1126.jpg Mirror holes welded shut... look at the perfect gap of the fender and the body! http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1127.jpg Door dings fixed... http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1128.jpg That is all for now SmileWavy |

That is an understatement... the amount of work to make these parts work is overwhelming... In my case, Joel sent me two different Qtr panels... one that was made with hand layed fiberglass cloth and one that was made with shooting it (similar to the method used in the boating industry)... So the thickness was not the same, the weight was not the same, the holes (openings) are not the same... So to make it look even on both sides is a major pita... and I ordered the parts soooo long ago that I will not even try to get a new qtr panel to match. With these parts it is best to see them before you buy. Not something everyone can do as they might not be close to the vendor's location. Anyhow, I ended up joining forces with a friend. I basically told him that I will give him the car if he paid to finish it... he gracefully accepted but only if we share ownership of the car ;). He found a guy that works wonders in the bodyshop and it is finally moving in the right direction and looking like it will be finished with a quality of work that I could only have dreamed of accomplishing. |
