That was just a rough test to see how it would look. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/p1_copy6.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/p2_copy9.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/p3_copy6.jpg We had to order a new gas tank as the one in the car was rusted on the inside... ordered from Pelican Parts and arrived today. |

The level of detail Alejandro has put into this car is just amazing! http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/6_copy48.jpg |
Glad to see this project back on the road to completion. I feel your pain, though.
Spent 200 hours trying to fit GT Racing front and rear bumpers. And the rear was sent back and replaced twice. Bought replacements from MA Shaw and spent 5 hours total on them. Live and learn. I posted it all in my build thread. H |

Once this is done we want to do a long nose (1973 RS)... I will shot myself on the leg before I buy from GT Racing again. Great guy to talk to, do not get me wrong, but the parts just need too much work to make them right. But first, this car needs to be finished. Then Alejandro is doing my 964... and then the FIAT Spider... AND then the 1973 RS... still looking for a decent priced donor car... SmileWavy |
Forgot this photo...
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1397.jpg He is fixing the arch around the wheel well. Also needed to fix the rear bumper as the bumper was not even with the arch of the qtr panel... http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/photo1_copy7.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/photo2_copy5.jpg I was really fooling myself when I thought that I could do this in my garage... ahh, nothing like an ignorant with initiative, lol |

I burned though 2 body shops getting mine installed correctly. If I had a body shop I would pass on the job. ;) Not a bad idea to let the bodywork sit a few months to cure and shrink before final block sand and paint. |

I want to finish this car, then do a Factory Five 33 or maybe a Superlite SL-C, though they're kinda pricey. Hal |

A few more photos of recent work... front bumper work
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/front_work1.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/front_work2.jpg Windshield remove so that I can remove the dash to repair/recover http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/front_work3.jpg |
That is shaping up really nice!
Keep the updates coming. |
Looking gorgeous. I met a guy in Steamboat Springs with a lovely RS (clone?) race car that was a metallic blue. I like your flat blue better.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1346867868.jpg
|
A few more... everything getting removed for painting... doors, fenders, bumpers, etc.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1458.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1457.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1456.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1454.jpg While Alejandro does his magic on the car, I am taking a shot at fixing the dash and recovering it with leather... will see how that goes... Great information from the threads on this...gave me the courage to give it a try. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1453_copy1.jpg |

I've came to believe this is the downside of college. My father, God love him and a true auto enthusiast with beautiful show cars, always drew a line in the sand. A line that he made based on what he "knew" and what was foreign to his knowledge base.
College, especially some fields like engineering and medicine, gives you this feeling that if you can read it in a book, WE CAN DO IT. LMAO It looks great and becoming an impressive machine. I just keep finding new things to try that I shouldn't because I READ IT ON PELICAN, therefore it must be within reason to be accomplished. |
Went and removed the dash. Well, dash and everything else. Took many many photos to remember where all those wires went..yikes!
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_removed1.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_removed2.jpg I really like how that blue looks. Can't wait to see the whole car painted already!! http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dsc01759.jpg We also removed the old headliner and took out the sunroof. |
Some additional repairs to the dash... some bolts that came apart and some that were missing.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair1.jpg Some cracks that needed filling and sanding...hope to cover one dash today. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair2.jpg |
The other car we just got had an old spare dash... reading a few threads here and got the encouragement to try a repair...only thing to waste was a good piece of leather (38.00).
This is the dash. I use some Bondo flexible epoxy (Bumper and Flexible Part Repair). That is the black stuff you see. The red stuff was my first attempt with some putty (not flexible so it sucked for this repair). I got rid of all the red bondo putty before covering with leather... but forgot to take a photo. Since this was a test, I forgot to take photos along the way. I will do so for the next one. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair7.jpg and after covering with leather. Used some 3M 80 adhesive. Strech strech strech, pull here, pull there, clean glue... cut at angle, strech some more. Turned out to be a bit easier than what I thought. After: I have a leather dash!! http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair8.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair10.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair11.jpg |
The second dash is in much better condition... here it is with the cracks filled:
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair17.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair16.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair15.jpg I used some vinyl preparation spray and some black vinyl paint (SEM) and here are the results. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair18.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair19.jpg But after the results with covering the test unit with leather, I am going to sand it again and go with leather on this one as well. This is the one that will go back in the car. And, because I could not resist testing the other dash... here it is on the car. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair12.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair13.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair14.jpg |
Closer to paint!!
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/fenders.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/sm_copy2.jpg Both doors inners are painted http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/doors1.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/doors.jpg |
Nice looking car :-)
|
this is a cool project
|
The dash that you see painted (a few posts back) I recovered in leather. Here is a photo of the dash finished. This is the one that I will install back in the car. The other one was just a test.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair20.jpg The car is getting painted today!!! |
I love the painted dash sheet metal.
I was contemplating doing something similar to mine but I chickened out. Yours turned out well. Nice contrast |
It is painted!!!!!!! Body shop guy only sent me this photo...lol
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/it_is_painted.jpg |
Body shop guy is a tease.
|
Some photos from today. I installed the dash. I also installed the new momo steering wheel but that was just for the photos... maybe if I left this guy alone it would go faster, hehehehe

Ooooooooo!!!!!! Beautiful!

Hey Wachuko, Congrats... but I think you need wider tires on the rear, the ones you have installed tend to spin or even worth, tend to move in the rims ... :D

A few more photos... pardon the lousy phone photos... I should have better ones this Saturday.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1507.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/img_1508.jpg |
The anticipation is building! Those ducts exiting the flares are so downright mean.
|
the build is looking amazing. I love the colour of the vehicle and i love that steering wheel, real classic look with a modern feel.
|
Haha, something about the way the car looks in that photo with the wide rear, tiny wheels, and no front bodywork reminds me of a Citroen DS for some reason.
The blue looks awesome, by the way. I think it was a good call, I personally wouldn't want to be the guy with the bright orange RSR that everybody's staring at when I hit my first trackday with it... |
Took a few photos today of the progress of the car. Apologies for the quality, only had my phone with me...
Rubber trim not installed. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint1.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint2.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint3.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint6.jpg The exhaust is not the final one... reason why I asked him not to bother with fixing the cutouts... once we order the headers and the muffler he will finish the cutouts around the exhaust tips. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint7.jpg Could not resist installing the wheels/tires to see how they would look in the car now... but since the car has been on jack stands the suspension did not settle down enough... reason for the 4x4 look in the photos. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint4.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint5.jpg |
Wow!
If it looks that good now, just imagine how fantastic it is going to look once you have the ride height set. Keep the updates coming! |
